You can kill a fly with a sledgehammer.
But do you really need to son?

That tape will take a lot brightness away. I hunt under a full moon. Or, you can put a trail camera with a flash over your bait and watch for the flash. When you see it get ready to shoot and hit it with your spotlight. You'll have a couple seconds to shoot before the pigs run. Just make sure they're pigs!

Bass Pro Shops sells a pack of lenses that may or may not fit your light!
I bought several packs of them and grinded the edges down untill they would fit my light, and then super glued them in place along the edges!

I have battery-operated LED hog lights that I use at my feeders. They work great and the hogs don't seem to be spooked by them at all. You can cobble them up yourself, or buy a good one like this: Feederlights I let the game warden know when I'm going to be hunting at night, and I DON"T EVEN THINK about using them during deer season.

I heard about people using red washable markers and coloring the lens. Never tried it myself

negative on markers...just buy the lens that fits the spotlight...red, amber or yellow...amber/yellow seems to not spook them as much as red
as for the red tape...if the tape seals the light area, it gets hot & cracks the lens on the light...the colored lenses are vented so it wont overheat

just shine your regular light up in the air, mount your gun and bring it down slow, youll have ample time to shoot before they run. they dont notice if you bring it down on em slow
