Looking at a large lease over there with some friends of my brother inlaw. The guys on it are saying they don't come to feeders that well and the only way to hunt is to hunt out of a jeep with good binos, spot one and put a stalk on it...
We don't think we will like the jeep spot & stalk hunting but at 1000 acres per paid hunter we would stand hunt... I am thinking (and hoping) that maybe they were not feeding enough to draw and hold them when they did try feeder hunting???

It all depends on price to. If it works within your budget then go for it. Again money makes the call on this one for me.

I hunted out there for years. They will come to corn and mule deer as well. A lot greatly depends on the conditions of the year etc. When I hunt there I like to get on a point or stand location where I can see. Due to the terrain you will be glassing a ton. PM me if you would if you would like to know more. I bet I know who you are hunting with. I would be glad to help

Deer in this area did not come to feeders very well this past year and I am still not sure why. We did have considerably more rain this past year than the last couple and the rains were timely also. We had very few does coming to feeders early in the year. As the year progressed, we had more bucks at feeders than does, which sounds like a good problem unless they are all younger bucks which a lot of ours seemed to be. Deer will and do come to feeders, whitetails and mule deer. Just make sure the pasture was not over hunted in the past. WIth the lack of rain we had year before last some deer where water is hard to come by may have left the area or suffered a die off. Consider all the factors that might be contributing to the deer not coming to feeders. The place we hunt on is probably less than 15 miles from Iraan, so I am pretty sure we could have some of the same problems that you are speaking of.

How long have the other guys been on this lease?
Just like anywhere in the state, if that area had a bumper acorn crop than you should expect the deer to lay off the feeders. But in that area if there are deer on the property and a poor acorn crop the deer should be all over the feeders.

I love hunting out there. I love the open space and if you are hunting with a good group it can really be worth it. I am not a big feeder hunter but I am less of a jeep hunter. I have seen deer step into the brush when a truck drives by and then back out in the road when they are gone. A lot of the older ones never came into the feeders. I liked to get on a point and glass then spot and stock. I think mule deer in the 160's and whitetails in the 150's are as good as you can get in the area. I would still feed just to get a starting point.

I don't know anything about the feeders but, I did a little work in the area a few months ago and there were tracks all over the roads.

We hunt about 18 miles south of Iraan and deer hit feeders pretty good
Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.

I'll personally take spot and stalk over sitting in a box staring at a 55 gal drum full of corn any day.
Not that I don't enjoy both, just saying.

Good area if not over hunted and if you have water. Make sure the thousand acre portion you'd be hunting has water. If it does, spot and stalk or feeder with stand hunting will work fine. Hunt a half mile to mile circle around the water and you will have consistent animal sightings.

Lol I wouldn't want to come to a feeder or even stay on a place were I had been getting chased around in a truck and by people all day... they may want to rethink their approach
