Well its been over a year since I have seen any on a Wal-Mart shelf and precious few on other shelfs...
So how long are you guys betting its going to take before you can walk in and buy some off the shelf without a 1 or 2 box limit???

I'd hate to venture a guess....never would have thought that what we have now would have happened to begin with. Hell, I ended up paying a guy 10.00 a sleeve just to get some mini mags before I finally found some on a shelf. Finally was fortunate enough to come across bulk on a walmart shelf last week and got my three box limit. Lesson learned

Just quit buying from individuals. And if your not going to use it or don't need it don't buy it.
They are making the same amount or more than they did before sandy etc. The only difference is people are buying more. Its stupid, just go back to normal buying and the stocks will return. People are acting like scared sheep... dumb arse scard sheep.

I am not sure 22LR will ever be the same again unless prices at the retail level get so high that people cant afford to just buy on a whim because its there. And in my opinion its getting there pretty quick. I saw some 50 round sleeves of 22 Short at BPS in Garland the other day for about $5.50 a box. Just standard 22 Short......nothing special. Do the math and that's more than what I see people charging here on THF and TFF. Also saw some Federal 22LR at one of the Wal Marts the other day. Once again nothing special just bottom of the line Federal 22's and they wanted $3.49 for 50 rounds. Obviously that's almost $35 a brick! Prices are climbing even at the retail level on 22's.

Prices on 9, .40, .45, .38/357 have all gone up in costs, normal to assume prices on .22 ammo will rise some extent. To what level no one knows for certain, and no one knows when it will be available again. Several members keep talking about how they see it all the time at Walmart & Academy, but I am not finding any and I ask every time I am in the stores.

I just wish people would quit going out and looking for it if they are not going to use it. If your got some raccoons to shoot or your kids want to burn up some ammo great, but that isn't what is keeping the shelves empty. I saw some at academy and walmart the other day. Didn't buy any because I don't need any, if others would do the same the shelves would be full and reasonable prices.

People are acting like scared sheep... dumb arse scard sheep. That's what I'm saying. Guys advertising in the classifieds and bargain papers are the ones keeping it going. I've heard it too many times to not believe that Walmart employees are getting friends to come in and buy it out for that to not be just a rumor. I worked on it for a while and stocked up enough to get me a ways. Time to replenish with a score here and there. Taking what you can get without paying gouger prices is tough. When it ends, I'll damned sure remember the stores that kept it in check and die things right. Carter Country and Gander Moutain have been very good around Houston. My biggest issue is finding powder and components.....

I think that's the issue Blackcoal. Do you need .22 at the moment or do you feel the need to buy because its hard to get. Everything I've read so far points to the consumer end for these problems - the factories are pumping it out as fast as they can. And if people are willing to pay more for the same product why NOT jack up the price? Prices only come down when product doesn't move off the shelf - speaking in general terms here. My

I wouldn't be surprised if the general felling by the populace is that there WILL be another emotional reaction by the liberals, and they WILL come after ammunition and loading components. Maybe folks have seen that as long as liberals exist this threat to their God given right to keep and bear arms will always exist. We're just waiting for the next Aurora, Sandy Hook, ect to happen, and the same play by the liberals will happen again.

I don't see it as liberals coming after our ammo, as much as I see it as speculative fear that they will; I've yet to see a bill that attempts to ban 22lr ammo etc. In my opinion, this is self imposed by our own, due to fear mongering, with a heaping helping of people who's only chance at subsidizing their income is standing inline at Wal-Mart at 2:00AM. Idiots and bottom feeders cause this IMO.

I really hate to do what I am about to do, because it will be very painful for you.

It will be at least another year before we see any 22lr on the shelves in any quantity. It will take that long for the hoarders and "scalpers" to get all they want and things return to normal, whatever the new "normal" is.
What I heard from the SHOT show is that manufacturers are running full bore to produce as much as possible and have been for the last year. And availability is still almost zero. So maybe in another year the pipeline will be full and we will see some ammo appear on retail shelves in quantity. That is the estimate from the people at the show. But that is just an estimate.

Mike,
Yes the speculation of it is the problem, but I can't help but believe there is some merit behind the speculation. I have not purchased any 22lr in 18 months, because I don't need it. What I need is center-fire components, and they are still hard to come by.

It will go on till people quit fearing government action and the hoarding stops. This is all fear based purchasing action by the people of the Socialist States of America! If you have an opportunity to visit Canada, rimfire ammo is hanging off the shelves.

Its not nation wide, one of my techs went to Missouri and the shelf was full of .22. At Wally world and Academy. But at the last 2 shows at Rodeo, a guy next to me had 2 tables of Wally and Academy ammo, 22,9,223,7.62x39. He told me he was doing $4000/ day in sales. I just smiled at him, trying to find a way to cover the cost of my tables!

Interesting! My Dad just got back from a 6 day vacation to Missouri 2 days ago. They stayed in Branson but went to Springfield to the BPS headquarters. I told him to be on the look out for any 22's at uninflated prices while he was there. He stopped at several Wally Marts between DFW and Branson and many others while in Missouri over the course of 6 days and didn't find any 22's at all even at the BPS in Springfield.

Maybe he didn't know where to look! LOL, stopped by a local store this morning and almost walked out empty handed again. The picture doesn't really do it justice, but you could not see these if you were standing up - bottom shelf behind some shotgun loads. I didn't even see them when I was bent over. Got down on the floor and bam!. Same store had some mini mags last week hidden as well. Only bought one of the 3 boxes that were hiding there though.
