On the other end of the spectrum, I know a guy who shot a TX doe with a .416 Rem mag.

One of the cull bucks I killed this year had what looked like a .22 wound that had healed up. My smallest is a .243, guess my view on ethics are a little different than many... lol jk
Arise.Kill.Eat -Acts 10:13 I have read a bunch of stuff on the internet about Star Wars but that does not mean I can skin a deer with a light saber.

I shot my plenty of hogs with .222 rem, so I let my wife kill her first deer with it. With the right bullets you get pass throughs. No flies on a .222

I've killed quite a few with Rem 222. Only lost one and it was my fault.

Squirrels with 22 short hollow points....deadly medicine. Oh, bigger stuff like deer.....22-250. My cousin did shoot a huge doe with a 22 pistol.......after gut shooting it with a 25-06. Idiot. He's one of those that shoots like 20 MOA. Next day my kid brother takes a buck at a longer distance out of the same blind with a neck shot. (He's more of a 1/2 MOA guy!)

didnt realize you guys were killin with such small calibers. I use a 22-250 and havent had a single deer take a step yet. I think bigger calibers often allow deer to run farther because the bullet passes clean through them inside of staying inside them like the smaller caliber bullets seem to do. Think about what you are saying. Maybe they think the statute of limitations has run out.

I think bigger calibers often allow deer to run farther because the bullet passes clean through them inside of staying inside them like the smaller caliber bullets seem to do. Think about what you are saying. Although he didn't go into detail, I think he's trying to say that heavily constructed bullets(what most people shoot through large calibers) often pass through without exploding the way varmint rounds do, thus causing the deer to bleed out rather tha be shocked to death. On a double lung or a heart shot, that is my experience as well. On a shoulder shot, and tough heavy bullet is perfect while varmint rounds tend to leave a softball sized chunk of muscle missing and the deer runs away never to be found. I prefer a double lung, but I often use a bullet I expect to pass through and accept that he will probably run 20-200 yards. My thinking is that if I take a non-ideal shot I have a better chance, but that doesn't meant a "varmint" load wouldn't be more effective for a double lung. Even in the .222 I shoot thick jacketed soft points at under 3000fps and I get pass-throughs on mid-sized hogs. The wife got a pass-through on her first deer with it too. With a 50gr BT at 3200 it probably wouldn't have taken a step, but with the tough bullet and a pass-through it was easy to track it 100yards to where it was laying dead.

Several white tail with a .223 I watched a guy shoot a blackbuck doe with a 17 HMR. I was dead set against it, but a head shot and it was DRT.
