I have tried a couple different brands of mechanical BH for some reason they are not doing as good as my fixed blades IMO. I am just looking for some opinions here. I may not ever go away from my fixed blades but I sure like the way the mechanical heads fly.Let me here the good the bad and the ugly.

Thanks

Slow Sunday?

I'm a trad guy plus an old oilfield hand, I have a great distrust for just about anything mechanical, so I'm not much help.

Stick with the fixed. That's what I've done and I don't regret it.

Try either the sidewinder or the steelhead from rocket

Deep penetrating mechanicals.

The sidewinder is similar in design to the grim reaper

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Very Impressive !!!!! I just wished they would have shot a hog or two with them. I have not shot a rage before but I will for sure give them a try after that.
Thanks for sharing !

I don't believe that any mechanical broadhead has a good answer for the "bow hunt hogs?" question, unless you limit your targets to shoats and sows of, arbitrarily, 150 lbs. or less. Otherwise I think their hide just offers too much resistance to deploy the blades and penetrate enough for reliable quick kills with good blood trails.

I'm no authority, but I think a total arrow weight of at least 550 grains (preferably over 600) with a fixed blade broadhead is the best medicine for pigs. A mechanical will kill 'em just as dead, but I think a heavy arrow with a fixed blade broadhead will put more meat in the freezer because you'll have a better chance of finding it.

With expandables or fixed the less cutting diameter the deeper they go. With that said smaller hole less blood..

Ulmer edge is 1 1/8 cut. I've had great success with it

Donate to TX Youth hunting program.... better to donate then to waste it in taxes

Thanks guys for all the opinions. I have always used a fix blade and had great luck with them.

If it is not broke don't fix it ! I am hunting big boars and I was wanting the most penetration with lots of blood trail. One other reason is I have shot aluminum arrows for years and still have 2 dozen arrows left.

Had some carbons built and they shoot very different than my other arrows. In fact they shoot lower with a fixed BH. When I shot with field tip they shoot the same. I put the BH back on aluminum and it hits perfect.

Don't understand it all and I have been shooting bows for over 25 years now.I guess the carbon is not wanting to tune in with the BH I have so that was why I was considering a mechanical head. I am using lighted knocks at night was the other reason.

I have a 300+lbs boar coming to my feeder at night. Was going to pop him with my rifle. But now Im going to use my bow and put a rage in his cage. Just to show what a rage can do to a big ol boar also. Will post pics of everything if I can make it happen. Arrow penetration, hole size, entrance/exit if its a pass through. I pull my full trusts in the rage 2 blade.

If you want to learn more than you ever wanted to know about broadhead penetration and arrow lethality do a search for Dr. Ed Ashby arrow lethality reports. He's been researching this subject for a looooong time.

Good info. You may have sold some Grizzly 2-blades today.
