My two boys have been doing Euro mounts for about a year. They have gotten very good and I figure Ill let them branch out and start doing them for more people. I was wondering what a fair price for everyone would be. They have 2 bug colonies, a degreasing tank, and these skulls never get boiled or damaged or brittle. They have been doing deer for $25 and hogs for $30. I think this is fair for both the boys and fokls getting them done.
Now folks have been asking about the wood for the skulls. I have built a few that are simple and figure $45 for deer and $50 for hogs with the bases.
Let me know if I am very off base and this would be fair for both parties in your opinions. Thanks.

Going rate around here is $85 on a plaque and $120 and up for barn wood or driftwood.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

Paid 200 for one, then got smart and paid 65 for another. I think your fees are low. People appreciate a good bRgain but sometimes being too cheap makes people think you ARE cheap, and in retail you don't want to be known as cheap.
Raise the rates about 10-15 bucks and you are well priced.

If those young men are using professional equip. and doing professional work, they need to be charging professional prices. There is a small workbook they need to get their hands on " the Breakthrough Manual of Business Management" it will help them calculate what prices they need to charge among other things. Good on them for learning how to make their own way.

Just because a "professional" charges $100 doesn't mean your kids need to do the same. Most Euro's are done by DIY guys. They will not pay the $100 rate. Walmart didn't become the largest retailer in the world by charging "professional" prices. Amazon is doing a great job on the Internet by using the same exact model that Sam Walton used in making Wally World so successful.
Just some things to think about. My guess is that if your kids keep the same rate as you stated above and advertise on here and craigslist, they will have more business than they can complete within 3 years.....of course it depends on the quality of product they produce. They are definitely in the right market to have lots of customers.

Thanks for the responses. Im just glad they are trying to make money instead of holding their hand out. 11 year old laid his thumb open this morning skinning a mule deer head and just came inside and asked for some superglue. He was back at it within 30 minutes. Ill post up some pics later on and take on a few heads at a time. As lone as their school grades stay good ill let them see what they can do in the business market. Gotta goto Office Depot and make them keep a ledger.

Either over boiled or not boiled enough etc.. Using beetles is the best work I've seen. Tell your boys not to give their work away, which is what their doing with their current prices. If they price about 20% under the taxi rate they should get all the business they can handle.

They're not giving there work away, they are 11 and 14. Keep your prices where there at. If they are making money at those prices, no reason to get greedy. That's where you could teach them about greed, but I'd wait until the 14 year old does research and then explain it to them.

$75 is going rate around here for a semi-pro to do it. I would think kids doing a good job should charge $40-50

That's where you could teach them about greed, but I'd wait until the 14 year old does research and then explain it to them. Greed has nothing to do with it. If they are putting out quality work, they should charge as much as they can....that is the very definition of capitalism. If they are putting out the same quality work as adult competitors, there is no reason they should not make the same amount of money just because they are young....that's ridiculous. If you are worried about them becoming greedy, then teach them to donate to charity. They could donate a percentage of their earnings to an organization, or even donate their skull cleaning services to someone in need. That is a much better plan than purposely limiting their income just because they are young.
