I agree. I was in the duck call making shack last night and my wife's yorkie kept raising all kinds of barking cane out side. He would go through barking speels and then stop. So I finally thought I better see what was up. About the time I poled my head out I heard the whistle of wings overhead. He went ape dookie again. I thouoght certainly there could not be that many birds. A couple seconds later it happend again. In the tune of 4 minutes I counted roughly 150 woods ducks flying over the yard. They fly tree top high and use the river like a road map. I have been there 10 years and never seen that many woodroes. I have seen a lot but not that many. It is something to see really.

Sad part is, there were A LOT of ducks just north of us in central & northeren OK. We would have been burning the barrels off in Jan if this would have happened about 3 weeks earlier.

We already had plenty of cold weather, in fact we had some better more consistent fronts this season than we have had in a while in my opinion. I don't think one front would have been a deal maker, especially towards the end of the season.

I didn't say fronts. I said winter weather. Fronts in and of them selves do not move ducks. The weather that can acompany the front is what moves them.

We've got new birds moved in over the past 36 hours as well, few weeks too late!

I agree for the most part, but It takes significant amount of said cold weather (temps., snow, etc.) to move birds this late in the "migration". Food has to be covered for extended periods by a significant amount of snow to move a majority of what's around, or they have to lose their access to water. Even then those birds are only going to move as far as they have to to find more open water and another good food source. They ain't gonna pack their bags to move south unless forced, and they ain't gonna pass up suitable habitat and conditions once they decide to do so. Earlier in the "migration" is a different story, but once the late parts of winter get here birds are trying to survive and fatten up for the migration north and breeding season.
