I have a mower that has a little 3 cylinder Kubota Gas Engine in it.

I need to adjust the valves. Any advice as to what order and procedure to use.

Top dead center and then adjust both intake and exhaust on that cylinder??

Help!!

Don't play around. Contact the Kubota dealer or get a manual.

Sounds good to me.

I think I'm gonna take it to the shop on Monday.

Don't mess with the valves unless you're a mechanic. Too tight and you'll burn 'em up.

If you have a set of go/no go feeler gauges and have adjusted valves before then it's pretty easy. If you've never adjusted valves, just take it in.

Hit it with a hammer. If that don't work, get a bigger hammer.

Or bigger muscles.

At least that's what Dad always says.

Piston needs to be at the top and you will need a gage and also know the exact spacing... also some liquid gasket incase the old ones give out. First thing I would ask is what lead you to want to adjust them? wont start? or starter lagging?

It was having a really hard time starting. I was getting a lot of popping and backfiring while trying to start. I did quite a bit of maintenance to it like plugs, wires, rotor, cap, fuel pump, carb rebuild, and a few other things, that finally led me to the valves. I took the valve cover off and they were way out of spec.

I ended up doing the job myself. I would put a piston to TDC and adjust both valves to the proper clearance. Did each piston (3 cyl.) this way. I actually did the whole thing foor 3 rotations of the engine just to make sure it was right.

The thing runs better than it ever has now.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, then you have an electrical problem.

Glad you got it fixed, a compression check may also be a good idea to check for valve problems, but you already got it going. Its very satisfying to fix something yourself!
