This deer photo is from my feeder last night around dinner time. Take a look at the forked tines...one or two, ok...but it appears all the tines fork?

This is from the livingston area. Buck appears mature...any chance there's Mule deer blood in the lines? Or, is this just a-typical antler development?

Let me know you thoughts....

100% WT and I would let him get a little older if you think he will make it, looks kinda youngish to me, maybe 3.5

WT - if they have good nutrition, a lot of deer can get stickers and kickers and split tines. Nice deer!

100% WT. some WT horns naturally fork. He has a main beam so if he does have some Mule Deer in him, then its very little. Mule deer don't have main beams.

For several years I had a set of antlers a guy gave me the day he shot the deer.

Looked like a perfectly mormal small 8 point white tail rack.

I was there when the deer was shot.

We were with in sight of Douglas Pass in western Colorado and there are no white tails with in a couple of hundred miles.

White tails and Mule deer are related, and from time to time the antler pattern of one species will show up in the other species.

Chances are with that buck, it is in his genetics and it may or will be passed along to his offspring.

There may be other bucks with a similar antler conformation in that area. JMO.

I believe him to be all white tail. The forks could be thought of as muley but most hybrids I've seen have the stubby mule deer brow tines.

Anyone ever seen a WT / Mule deer cross breed? If so, what would they resemble? Just curious. We have both on our lease.

shake,
there are lots of pictures on here. Some of these guys can really fill ya in on the subject. Pretty cool stuff!
Me personally, never seen/shot/or experienced it. But some who hunt up in muley country know all about em.

Looks all WT to me. Had a guy from our lease shoot a buck in West Tx a few weeks ago and even the biologists were confused as to which breed it was. I saw a pic and was confused, I had to ask him if it ran or hopped. I got the classic response of "it would hop a ways, then run". I believe a few parts from the deer got sent off to be lab tested.

I see several of them every year, the place where i do my javelina hunts has quite a few hybrids.

from my experience they are easy to tell from the parent species, because they look like a conglomeration of the two species, not a real blending.

From what I have been told however, most GW's in the areas where hybrids occur use the tail as the identifier.

If it has a typical white tail tail, that is the way it should be tagged.

If it has a tail like a muley, then that is how it should be tagged.

100% pure WT, and a damn good one to boot. I hope you get him!

We had a deer on a ranch I worked that had big forks on his G2s & G3s. He was flat out awesome! A typical 10 with four forks!

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!
