If it's planned and it depends on terrain. In the thick woods it's hard to beat a Marlin 336, 30-30. Other than that I tend to always have my bolt action 260 with me most days. Any hog seen will make me line up for a shot, if it's safe.

Remington 710 in .30-06. It's also my deer gun. No need to spend a fortune when it gets the job done. Have also used a Remington 870 with buckshot. The wife has a Savage .25-06 for pigs and deer.

Deer quality is not measured by antler size

I have great results with a Parker Hale .243, Ruger .44 mag., and a Ruger ,45 with cowboy loads.

I use a Browning BAR in 7mm-08. Rarely get more than one shot though.

Make your firstshot count!

I'm using a winchester .308 and a New England firearms rifled 20G. Both will work. I've heard anything from a .22 and up will work if you have the perfect shot placement. Hogs have a thick layer of Muscle/Fat that surrounds their internal organs for that kill shot. Big hogs might be a totally different story, I've seen one guy stick 5 arrows in a 250 pound hog and it took him forever to go down. If all else fails go for the head.

I have used a 7mm mag and tried this out last night with one shot and dropped AR-15 in a 223.

If I'm going to be out and about at night, I'll pull the plug on a 12ga and load it up with buckshot in case I come across an entire herd under a feeder that I can walk up on. I've been keeping my XCR 270wsm in my truck when I'm around my hog killing grounds to reach out and touch them during daylight hours.

driving around on the ranger or mule I'll carry an AR in 223.

I've used my .223 a lot and have had good luck with it. But, I've used several other larger calibers too. This one took a Barnes 150 from my 30.06 the other day at about 50 yards and weighed a little over 200 lbs. In one ear and out the other.

Usually one of my AR15's or AR10. Also, if I'm hunting with any bolt gun of mine and a hog comes out I'll pop em.

I think if we ever get a chance to link up when I get back from Korea and do some hunting, we'll let you have a go with it!

Shot placement is important.
