If I shot an animal and knew where it was and did not retrieve it I would not be talking about it.

X3...Such a waste. I would have figured out a way to get that aoudad out. You owe it to the animal and to all those hunters who were not lucky enough to be drawn, to exhaust all efforts to retrieve that animal. What I wouldn't do to be drawn for a hunt like that.

Should have never taken the Shot if your not going to retrieve the Animal "at all costs"....

well if he hadn't jumped I would have brought him back but I didn't have a hundred feet of mountain climbing rope or the skills to go down a vertical cliff like that that's the only one I could not get too

Did you ask those running the hunt for help or if they knew a better way to access that part of the canyon?

We were just there on the mule deer hunt last month, and they went out of their way to tell us (over and over) they would help us on recovery any way they could. Whether that was driving the Polaris back to the farthest parts of the park, or helping to drag the animals out it didn't matter. Sounds like you needed to check with them. Too bad about losing it.

Here's a cell phone picture of the Northwest corner of the park, with Highway 256 up on top of the cliffs, and me standing in about 2.5 miles in from the trailhead. Great aoudad and pig country, but it is rough!

Cool story.. sorry you didnt get your animal. They would have probably helped you recover it if asked. But I wont be rude to you or beat you up about it. ignore the meanies.

I've been on many mountain hunts and taken shots at animals where recovery was though and challenging. However I never left an animal behind because it was hard to get to.Your excuse is not valid, there's always a way.
You should have gone back with the right safety equipment or maybe you still can??
Hunting is not only about killing an animal.
