Thinking about buying a couple hundred acres and was wondering what's up there.

Lived here my whole life. I go west to hunt just for the numbers. I own land here and see deer, have pics of some good deer, plenty of hogs. Hard hunting like some one already said, never had an issue with poachers. What part of the county you looking at?

If you lived on the property, it would be good. I hunted near Linden for a couple years, my stand was hunted more during the week than I got out of it on weekends! Beer cans, food wrappers, cigarette butts,...

This was my experience as well. Plenty of deer. Thick cover can make some tough hunting. Big poaching problem. I actually on 2 different occasions caught poachers on the property. One time, the guy was sitting in my blind. IMO the only way to prevent this is if you LIVE on the property.

Locals know when you come and go and know the trails to their house and to your stand. Like the deer, they use the thick cover to hide their movements. I walked up on a guy poaching on a place we had leased, I saw him before he saw me, I had my Son with me at the time, he was little. Rather than confront the guy and possibly get in a shoot out, we just backed out of there. That was the last time I hunted Cass county. Beautiful place though.

Been a landowner and hunter in that area all my life and have had more problem with poachers in the panhandle and west texas than here. Biggest problem I have had of late is local teenage boys and their hog dogs crossing my fence. But, to each his own.

I probably should have said, that was 30 years ago when I hunted there. Not sure what it's like now.

Family has land that is in Cass and Morris county. County line runs right through it. About 2 years ago, had a couple guys drive up on our property real slow at 9:30pm as my uncle and I were sitting in the blind waiting for the hogs to show up. We surprised the heck out of them when we popped out of the blind. They claimed to be coming over to find the landowner as they were hunting adjoining property and "were worried about line of fire". I recommended if they were so concerned they should make the visit during the day. Well, 2 months later my uncle and I both had game cams stolen and my grandmother and uncle live on the property. I don't put cams up without lock box after that. Those were the only problems I've had. There are some poaching, camera stealing scum, but there are some real good folks out there as well.

Lots of deer and hogs, but the deer are just about 99% nocturnal. I've only been hunting out there for the last 4 years and in that time I've only seen a buck once during legal shooting time. That being said, I love it out there.

I hunt in Marion county, just south of Cass. The hunting is good for East Texas. I mean compared to the Hill Country or South Texas it's tuff. Some areas are good some not so good. It's really hard to tell unless you hunt a property for a couple of years. i am surrounded on two sides by big properties that are not hunted. If you have a bunch of small properties surrounding you, things can get tough real easy. people in this area want to hunt with way too many people on the property. We had 50 acres next to us that had two hunters and guests shooting every deer that moved. We managed to get the property out from under them to help eliminate the problem. I have had the place for 17 years and really have never had a problem with poachers on the property. I think the amount of poaching that goes on in the area is greatly exaggerated. Good luck.
