It looks like the classes are few and far between. I wonder if anyone here on the forum does the classes for people...?

I'm an instructor, but a long ways from DFW.

You can take a portion of it online, but still must complete the required Skills portion of the course.

I found a couple Homestudy/Online courses in Flower Mound, but you'll still have to complete the Skills portion. One of them is tonight at 6pm.

Flower Mound November 26, 2008 6:00 p.m. (972) 949-4180
Flower Mound November 30, 2008 6:00 p.m. (972) 949-4180

Here you go to go the online/homestudy portion before the class.

Good Luck!!

You can self study online but you still have to go in for one day instead of 2.

After being very disappointed with the class my daughter and I took here in the Houston area, I've decided to become an instructor. I thought the training material was excellent and gave plenty of opportunities for the instructor to keep the participants engaged.

Ag teacher in Trenton TX about 25 miles north east of Mckinney on 121 is having a class starting tomorrow Dec. 1st. I believe he said Mon., Tues., Thurs. starts at 6:30. Contact Trenton High School and ask for Mr. Bradley for more info.

I am an instructor an try to teach one class per year. This is basically a volunteer thing to give back to a sport that I have enjoyed for a long time. I have done class room and the filed course for online students. My favorite is the field course. It starts of with a welcome, filling out paperwork, a laws and ethics presentation then the final exam. After the final exam I will take all who met the criteria set by TPWD to a friend of mines property close to town for a live fire event (target practice) and hunter skills trail. My hunter skills trail includes safe carry of a fire arm (in vehicle, two man fence cross, one man fence cross, entering and exiting elevated blind) and blood trailing a wounded deer. This latter is a favorite of kids and adults alike. I use a fake blood that looks real and set up a realistic blood trail with a deer decoy at the end of trail.
I enjoy teaching the class but I do it at my own schedule. With my work I stay very busy and have to make time to teach a class between summer and hunting season. Once hunting season starts I dont want to teach another one because I would like to spend my spare time in the deer blind. I advertise my class on TPWD and also fliers around town. I am lucky to get 15 students but as soon as class is over and hunting season starts I get a lot of phone calls begging me to do another one.
Go to TPWD website and look under education you will find a list of open classes.
