Looking for a good, reliable long distance rangefinder that is reasonably priced. Goal is to be able to pick up deer and hog sized animals out to 1000 yards. Suggestions?

reasonably priced means different things to different people...some may consider anything over 200 dollars reasonable while others may be thinking anything under 1K.
I just picked up a Leica 1000-r for 539 at cableas, was a floor model and that gave me an extra 10% off since it the only one left. I think that is reasonable for what you get, but thats my opinion.
Maybe make clear what you mean by reasonable and more people can give their opinions...
Vortex, Leupold make good rangefinders for sub 400. Sub 300 and you will struggle with anything longer than 600 yards, probably closer than that even.

I have a Nikon 600. It'll read a deer or hog to 400, but it's a stretch to do it. If I was going to buy another one, I'd look at the Bushnell 1000 or something similar from Nikon and hope that I could read a deer or coyote to 600. That would be all the range I need and at a price level that isn't too bad, but I highly doubt (though I don't really know for sure) that it would read a small critter to 1000 yards. I've heard that top of the line Leicas will read out that far, but my cousin that has one wouldn't claim that range. So I suppose I only know what won't read at that distance, but don't know what will. That's info I'd like also.

Leica 1600B. I've tried others and they failed to deliver.

I've played with a lot of LRF, and I bought and use the Bushnell Fusion 12x50 LRF. I've tagged steel targets out to 1 mile. It will easily pick up normal targets to 1K, no problem. The challenge, with any LRF, is holding it still to get a good reading.

Do NOT get that Leupold, not for what you want. I sold mine and have been testing an ARC1300 and it is a LOT better. But I have not had to opp to range a deer past 500.

I have and arc1000 and it's a good one. Only used it out to 500+ yards. Good up to there at least...

I routinely range hogs/deer/coyotes/black panthers well past 1000 with a Leica CRF 1600...but I wouldn't say it's a budget RF. can usually range them that far through a truck window.

There's some good deer around here. I'm looking into leasing a place right up against the North side of town to shoot some park deer

Can't, that River's Authority & CoH land. This place is more due East of Porter along the little waterway. I see big deer back there too behind folks' horse pastures.

I've played with a lot of LRF, and I bought and use the Bushnell Fusion 12x50 LRF. I've tagged steel targets out to 1 mile. It will easily pick up normal targets to 1K, no problem. The challenge, with any LRF, is holding it still to get a good reading. Very true! If you have no way to maintain stability, you will never be able to get an appropiate reading. The problem is, that any slight twich, even your heart rate will move that laser and supply an innacurate reading.

Also, an awesome feature of the Bushnell LRF is you can sweep over the target and get a constant reading that changes as you move across different areas. I like this for when there is something in the background, and the target is closer. You can get a sweep reading of the target and it's background and know what each distance is. Often times I've thought I had the target distance but actually had the back ground distance.

They do ok. The lens have a slight green tent to them. So, they are not crystal clear. But if you wanted to use them as a dual purpose, they should work ok.
