Pardon my inquiry but "Is hogging with dogs pretty much an East Texas and Louisiana thing?" Is it much more exciting than simply putting a bullet in their earhole? Don't recall seeing much of this down in South Texas over the 1980s/1990s or 2000s but seems quite common in East Texas and Louisiana. Just trying to understand the rush with using dogs.

Interesting recreation, thanks for sharing some insight on it...If I had a dog or two, I'd think about giving it a try. Not sure what type of dogs are the best, thinking some type of pit bull mix. For now, I'll need to continue ear holing them..

Awesome, looks like you got that new Photobucket account working.
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

Gonna take more than a couple dogs. A lot of people use hounds or curr dogs to search out and find the pigs. Usually carry a heavier breed like a pit or bulldog to stop a pig. I've seen it done a ton of different ways. Saw a guy carry catahoulas and round pigs up once.

There is plenty of it in south texas! I know a guy around Pearsall that runs the mess out of dogs... And yes once you run them with dogs and bring them out alive.. shooting them is more of just cuz you have to instead of want to

For now, I'll need to continue ear holing them.. BMC hands down... We run 1 or 2 dogs at a time, that's it. They are wolfhound/deerhound/dane crosses. They are large, fast, and quiet. The philosophy is "let one out". One dog does it all, sometimes two dogs will catch the same pig. When they are mature and you turn two dogs loose on a sounder, most of the time each dog will catch and hold his own pig. I used to hunt with packs of barking dogs, BMC's, pits etc, but love hunting them like this. It's also a blast stalking with the dogs using night vision. Like I said they don't bark, so you can get pretty close to pigs out in the farm country before you turn the dogs loose. Saves energy too.
