I am curious because I have only had WT, Hog and dove. Looking for opinions on the best tasting game meat you can hunt.

Of what I've had the elk I killed has been my favorite.
Any chicken fried game meat is good in my book, also.
I need to take a kid rabbit and squirrel hunting, that's pretty good eatin, too.

Well TXHogger- you've had dove, that would be on my short list. I have never had any dove with any sort of gamy taste. I usually parboil and then scoop the meat off the bones and cook with sliced mushrooms,a little garlic, butter, and marsala wine- then over rice. Also good in tomato sauce and wrapped in bacon and put on a spit. I've had early grouse that was as good as chicken. I'm told that later in the year grouse get eating pine needles and don't taste as good. Squirrel, on the short list- always good. I make a Brunswick stew. If I know the squirrel is young -I ask the squirrel before I shoot it then it might get fried. Quail, it's okay. Venison and elk- okay Ate one spring shot bear. The ribs were okay. Fall bear is supposed to taste better. Buffalo- never had bad buffalo- better than beef IMHO. turtle- good in turtle soup. Still waiting on ground hog gravy- yeah it sounds crazy but I'm told it is outstanding.

Buffalo, quail, bullfrogs, alligator, crawfish....all the other stuff can be described as deer-like or chicken-like.

Elk and axis are my 2 favorites for venison, then whitetail, bison too. But that's all I've had except for a pronghorn about 40 yrs ago and I don't recall that one much. Personally, I really like wild hog too. Hard to beat on the smoker or cut up and chicken fried. And, if you say it stinks, well, you're either processing it or cooking it wrong, lol
