I didn't have the privilege of shooting a nice buck this deer season, but I was instead very blessed to witness something better: My girlfriend shooting her first big game animal ever! We started dating back in October. She comes from a hunting and shooting supporting family, but never has had the chance for herself to harvest a big game animal. That aspect always seemed to stay with the men of the family. When I came along and started dating this precious drop dead gorgeous 20 yr old, I was very determined to see her harvest either her first deer or her first pig. We got the opportunity to hunt a friend's place near Jayton, TX. She was allowed to shoot any big bucks or hogs that we saw. Well, in just the first evening of hunting during the second weekend in Nov, we had a dandy buck come out into the wheat field about 30 min before dark. Now get this, she has only shot at targets, never at a big game animal prior to this point. We are simply sitting under the trees along the edge of the wheat field. She is shooting a 22-250 with Remington 55gr corelokts. While kneeling down and using bog pods as a rest, she smoked this 200lb buck right behind the shoulder at 175yds! The deer ran 50 yds and piled belly up right inside the edge of the field. WOW. I was ecstatic, I couldn't believe in my Babe's first evening of deer hunting with me, she just killed her first big game animal at 175yds, kneeling down over bog sticks, and it was a 137 BC ten point buck, bigger than any buck I have ever killed. I couldn't have been happier, my deer season had just been made regardless if I got to kill a buck or not that year. Big buck is on the ground for my sweetheart. I'm ecstatic. I'm ready to see her shoot more stuff, especially hogs! I have a soft spot for hog hunting because I have killed so many myself and guided several hunters to their first hog kill. I get permission to hunt a wheat field on a friend's farm near Jonesboro that is constantly tore up with pig activity. We slip out to the place one evening, and right before dark we spot about 20 + pigs feeding in the corner of it. I grab my .300 Win Mag and we take off across the field hunched down low to get the wind right. There was a slight rise in the field we kept between us and the hogs for extra cover. We made it about 120yds from the group and got setup prone on a big ole sow that was slowly feeding our way. My girlfriend got setup and when the sow turned broadside, KABOOM! Sent a 200gr Swift A-frame Remington bullet down range and blew that big sow over, WHAM! Big sow down, my Baby had just put down her first feral hog, another relationship proud moment to add to my collection! After we scored on the hog, I decided to celebrate by taking my babe on another adventure I am very found of, spotlighting for varmints. After driving around the Cowhouse creek bottom at my grandad's place, I was able to find Mr. Coon piled up and trying to hide in a big cottonwood tree. Unfortunately for him, he did not out smart my girlfriend's trigger pool from a .17HMR. Bam! Coon down! Here are some success photos of my personal hunting season. Only some pigs and a doe, but the doe was shot at 400yds! Shot these two pigs in one shot while stalking! Jumped a group of hogs at 20 yds, quickly got a free standing shot off and put two with one bullet down! Had a successful Cues deer hunting trip while videoing for my new boss, Larry Weishuhn A.K.A. Mr. Whitetail Also got to meet Sergeant Gunny while videoing a H.A.V.A. Family Day

You've got yourself a keeper right there. That's a big ol' Kent county buck she killed. Looks like y'all were north of town, perhaps? Larry seems like a very personable guy too. great pics Man.

Yessir we were north of town, I have to keep the specific property location on low profile for certain reasons. Land owner's request.

Danger Ranger: Fantastic photos and congrats to your girlfriend on some very successful hunts.
Not sure if you will remember but you and I met in the Phoenix airport a couple of weeks ago on our way to Hermosillo when you were with Larry. I didn't realize you were from Texas. It looks like Larry got a nice couse Deer. Did he get a big mulie? I am looking forward to seeing you hunting video when it is aired. Keep up the good work with your girlfriend and please keep posting such great pics. Gary Harris
PS: pm me sometime and I will send you some photos of the 2 mulies I shot while I was down in Mexico

Well played with your girlfriend. Congrats to her on her success. Impressed that she shot the 300mag without worrying about the kick. Congrats to you for being lucky enough to find her. I wish you two many years of happy hunting.

It's always nice when you significant other enjoys hunting. Congrats on the girl and the season.
A real hunter never returns empty handed. Spending time in the wilderness temporarily satifies the soul, but leaves us longing for more.
