Anybody hunt in the Big Thicket, Lance Rosier unit? I know its a tough place to navigate and not as popular as the WMAs but I go squirrel hunting in there and it seems like the deer would thrive in such a thick environment. I've seen lots of hogs back there during the warm weather. Just wondering if anybody has any experiences (good or bad) that they'd like to share.

There was a time when the Big Thicket held the only deer in East and Southeast Texas. It was only through restocking efforts that their numbers later flourished in East Texas.

Only shotguns (no rifles) are allowed for deer hunting there.

Yes it does! Especially when tree limbs and rocks are being thrown at you in the dark and a football size rock lands in your camp! eeks333

A couple years ago I got there at about 2:00 am on an unusually foggy night and I hiked about 2 miles in, via the pipelines. The fog was so thick that with a flashlight you couldn't see more than a few feet away; but I managed to pick a spot to sit. Later on I found out that I was sitting next to an old forgotten cemetery, that has been reclaimed by nature.

Years ago heard bout the Thicket. Yha, buddy & i went ta see if could get some meat for some grillen. we got way back in thar, wasn't seeing a thing. before we knew it, was turned around, cloudy day. we shot three times in the air, waited, nothing, shot three more times half hour later, nothing. only had an arrow apiece so saved them. started getting dark, so prepared for the night. bout hour inta the darkness, heard some thrashing & growling, we looked at each other, could barly see the whites of our eyes. we took off a running, wham whin i woke up from my nap, my buddy was laying their motionless & two bears were standing over us, mad as can be, cause we diddn't have the propper paperwork. i got up took off running, thinking best thing ta do was go get help. could here the awful yells & screams for miles. little after day break finaly made it outa the thicket. twas a two hour walk back ta the truck. finaly got their an their stood my buddy. my cloths were torn ta shreds, while his barly a wrinkle. asked how he got away. he just laughed an said. after he settled down from his yellen & screamen the bears told him they were lost & confused just like us, an only wanted ta borrow some charmin. few days later we read in paper their was rummors of people hearing panthers down in the hollow. we were to emberrised ta admit it was us flag

I'm at a loss for words Colt. For me that's not very often.

I can't speak for the LR unit, but I wouldn't leave anything in my car.
