Total deer for the year was 6. A 9 point whitetail buck, 2 whitetail doe and 3 axis doe. Donated 3 and kept 3. The protein feeding program seems to be working.

worst year I've seen in many years.

glad yours was a winner.

I did get me first 3 bowkills so it was a success but as far as whitetail hunting is concerned it was pitiful

Congrats on your first bow kills! Am giving serious consideration for bow hunting next season, any recommendations about a first bow? Have only shot a recurve ...back in my Boy Scouts days... 40 years ago.

I like the idea of setting up for close shots only...and being very quiet.

This was the worst season of hunting I've ever experienced. I saw four deer all season. That includes bow season.

I personally like Diamond and Bowtech products. go to a pro shop(not bass pro or cabelas, but a real archery shop) and tell them you want to get set up for archery hunting. they will take care of you.

I am in love with it. its like having to learn to hunt all over again. a kill is much more satisfying when its with your bow. everything is more primal.

We had more rain than the past two years in live oak county, but didnt quite get the spring rain it takes to produce exceptional antlers. We took 14 does and 2 bucks. One was a 5.5 year old double main beam. We did see a bunch of good deer in the 4.5-5.5 range, so next year has potential. Come on march rain. Overall, i saw better deer than average this year.

Excellent hunting year in Mills County with above average antler growth even in the dry conditions. Third year of "Antler Restrictions" and I'm impressed so far at the number of quality bucks we are carrying over.

Glad others had success. It was slow at best for us. Deer sightings were all or nothing, you either saw a bunch or none at all.

We shot 8 deer so far, 6 does, a browless 6 pt and a spike buck. Hoping to collect a few more does in the next couple weeks.

Good year for deer in Concho. Let a couple of good deer go early in the season and my father took one of the biggest bucks we have taken off the place in the last 20 years. Ended up taking one doe, one nice cull and 5.5yo ten pointer. Spent time with the family and was with my sister when she took her first shot at a buck. She wasn't able to connect, but the time we spent was priceless and watching her get excited made it an awesome experience. Would have been even better if she had connected.

This year was the best year I have had in Kansas. Didn't kill anything but missed a mid 150's ten at 27 yards with my bow. Let two walk that would break 140's and saw an absolute monster at 50 yards.

This year was a wash for me, being between leases and having a new baby. I already have some local property lined up to hunt this next season so its looking up already.

Every year is excellent for me when it comes to hunting no matter if I kill a deer or not. I did not kill a WT buck but my hunting season was a success in my eyes this season. I spent many days enjoying the great outdoors, that is all I needed to consider it a successful season.

Worst season we've had in 7 years in Telegraph, Texas. The 2011 drought took it's toll in this area. After hunting 25+ days and taking good mental notes it appears we had a significant die off of Mature deer in early 2012(Jan- March). Yearlings survived the drought and now we are seeing a tremendous amount 1.5 and 2.5 year old deer this past season with just a couple 4.5 year old bucks killed on 3800 acres. Nothing older including doe's.
Blackbucks and Axis were not impacted at all by the drought.
Look like two more years for this area to rebound.

Got 2 nice bucks first 2 weeks, typical hill country for the most part. Saw 2-3 younger bucks a few times. Saw very few mature does through out the entire season. Had seen hogs many times but did not shoot more than one...figured I would wait until early January. Waited and did not see any, they are feeding after dark. We had a good season overall, grandson got a nice doe and we got to enjoy the outdoors many times. We don't have the best hunting on our 216 acres but we can go out all year, and we do.
South San Saba county.

Thanks for the advice and recs, have found a place that looks promising and will pay them a visit. They have an indoor range and several outdoor 3-d target courses, offer intro and advanced courses as well.
I have only fired my .270 twice at game. Love love love the accuracy and knockdown power and if I go on hunts where a long distance shot is called for then I will carry it.

Like you said, I am looking for a more primal or just plain primitive style hunt, one that is up close, more personal and with less window rattling sound waves. Hunting in the populated areas that I do it just makes more sense. I also like making my own blinds and stands and enjoy the challenge of setting up for a clean shot.
Another aspect is that my son has said if I were to go 'bow' he would go hunting too. That alone makes it worth trying.

This was a terrible year! I went six times and saw no shootable deer. Lame.

Texas is better.

Ok season overall. 2 bucks killed on our place but lots of pigs.
