I have a two acre earthen pond in middle of 50 acre field and have had some luck the last two years with duck hunting. I want to do what I can to make it better for next year. All ideas and suggestions would be appreciated. Will putting out feed after this season help for next year? Planting what around the edges is recommended??? Planting what in the areas that go dry in August and get covered in water by October would help???
We also had some geese several times in the area. I know most say to not to leave duck decoys out except during hunting as ducks get wise and I am wondering about leaving out large goose decoy spreads during the season????
Thanks for your suggestions.

I wouldn't worry about leaving a spread out...
But to answer your question about groceries. If it is a natural drawdown, put some smartweed seed down and let it grow. When it floods back over it, the ducks will love it...
Another one I've heard of people doing is Millet...

What's the field, just pasture or crops?
How deep is it? Any water source?

I am going to seed several tanks with smartweed as soon as season is over. Then I am going to build three 1/2 acre plots that I can grow food in and put water in when season comes around.
I already have the land and the tanks so I figured I would concentrate my efforts utilizing what I have. Rather than chasing them around. Granted my property is already located in a pretty good flyway but void of groceries. We will see how it goes.
