This is what I use in a box stand instead of a tripod. I put a bean bag under the lens for support. Works good if you have a 2x4 or something under the window to clamp onto. http://www.trophytools.com/product-p/spr1.htm

Details on the first pic of the finch? (I.E. Shutter speed/appertature/focal length?) I would check the exif data, but i dont have the software handy  Looks like you got a nice copy of it!

Sweet! Thanks for the specs... Seems that the t4i isn't a slouch at iso800! I've taken some pretty good photos up to ISO 1600. It's when you get above 1600 that really start to notice a lot of noise in the photo.

Is the Tamron a twist zoom or a pump like the Canon? It's a twist zoom. Not a dust pump.
