I am a wildlife biologist (currently do consulting work full time) and am looking for a place to hunt and trap hogs year round or at least outside of deer season. Don't care quite so much about deer, but opportunities to hunt other game would be appreciated.

What I can offer: Expertise with wildlife ecology and habitat improvements if needed, a nice 350# feeder, game camera(s), labor (filling feeders, clearing brush/trees, fixing things), guiding other hunters occasionally, etc. Been hunting for quite a while and will be very respectful of the land and others using it. I am also proficient with map making and can make professional quality aerial and topographic maps of your ranch to your specifications for free.

What I am looking for: A place where I can go hunt/trap hogs and bring one family member or friend with me when I go out (safer and more fun!). I would love to be able to hunt birds and deer as well, but definitely not a priority. I would prefer that this place be within about 3 hours of DFW. I am hoping to offset costs by offering my skills and time to help improve the property and hunting. I am a young professional so my budget can only go so far.

Let me know if you have a lease available!

Since you are in the DFW area, what would be your procedure/protocol for trapping. I have leased out hog hunting privileges on one of my leases in the past. Will you be taking several days at a time to come set traps or what. I have told my lease members they can set traps as long as they are managing it. The first time I find a dead hog in a trap will be when they find all their stuff sitting outside the gate. I can get with my lease guys on one of my leases and see how they feel about off season hog hunting/trapping by an "outside source" (non-lease member). If they have no problem with it I might could make you a good deal thru September.

Russ,

Good question. My favorite traps are pen traps like the figure 6 with a feeder in them as they allow me to leave the traps wired open most of the time and build the sounder's confidence. Conveniently, that makes them great for being out of town as I'm able to un-wire them only while I am there. This way I can "hunt" passively for a whole weekend while working on other stuff around the place. This is how I ran things while I was in school (my family's ranches were about two hours away) and I think they make a lot more sense than box traps, at least for me. Feeds the deer, too.

Also, not sure if it makes a difference but I do this mainly to feed myself, friends and family. Never have sold a hog yet, not one to waste good meat.

OK, I don't have a problem with wiring them open when you are not there. I would have to get approval from my lease members to move forward. This lease is in Nacogdoches county and I would make available from whenever we get this started until Labor Day. How often would you be coming, if I get the OK for us to work this out?

Probably every other weekend, more if possible (as gas money allows). Shoot me a PM and let me know what kind of $$ you are thinking of. Thanks!

Still looking, not all lease members were interested. Thanks though Russ!
