Just picked up a Romanian M69 .22 trainer. Great condition with a nice figured "birds eye" type markings in the stock.
Anyone else have one?

Pics to come.

Nice. I've been wanting one of those. Just have a Wz31 and Wz48.
Looking forward to the pics.

Its still out in the truck. Also found a 50rd box of "Junior" brand .22 match ammo at the gun show. Should shoot good with my other Russian Black Box match rounds.

A little on the M69...

Match Chamber
2 stage Trigger
Hooded elevation adjustable front sight
25 meter rear sight with flip up 100 meter blade
...and someone threaded on a nice big wooden bolt knob to help cycle the bolt!

From what I have seen, in some parts of the country, they used to be dirt cheap. $55 for an average/$75 for a dealer select example.
I think this one might be up in the $200 range at least as it sits.
$250 if it shoots lights-out and the trigger gets right.

Ya someone had a sale, Classic maybe, on them and I missed out. I think I was seeing them recently for $169.

I won't shoot the 31. I'd never find parts if something broke. But the 48 shoots great!

Gotta get rid of that dang gloss finish. Any suggestions?
Mineral spirits and steel wool?
Wet sand?
Paint thinner and scotch brite?

You can degloss it with a scotch brite pad or better yet, 0000 steel wool. However, the areas you touch a lot will polish back and become shiny eventualy. But the steel wool route will only take a few minutes, and you can always touch it up as it gets shiny. You can take the stock off, scuff it up with a scotch brite pad, then hit it with a matte finish clear and get a more consistent look.

Would you think messing with it would hurt any future value?

I could be wrong, but I'd treat it strictly as a shooter. If I had one like it I'd do anything and everything to make it suit me.

Using steel wool on the finish wouldn't hurt the value because you can buff it back to a gloss.

I bought one years ago. I love the little thing. I did some work to smooth the bolt out and that helped. It's pretty accurate with those flip up iron sights.
