I feel your pain. I wanted a Redhead and a Pintail. I assumed it would not be a problem since I have been sent to work on the coast for a project. Ten hour days means not enough light to hunt. I can hear shots on still morning on my jobsite and I see ducks all the time. Sucks big time.

If you go to North East Texas and go any where close to the Sulfur or White Oak you will kill a woodie... Been here all my life, tired of shootin em.

I pass on them most of the time because they're tough to clean and you don't really hunt them, you just shoot them when they happen to fly to you.

they do taste good though, plucked and cooked whole in a pan of dressing

Mostly all I saw this year was Woodies in one of my areas. Took some everytime I went out there. Be careful cause if you happen to find them you can wipe em out if over hunted. I had a few flocks of 8-12 that seem to be there every season. I'll harvest some but make sure to leave them to conserve them for next year. Self control for sure cause the same area has not had the usual kinds of duck cause of water level. Only one greenhead taken from there.

They typically are in creeks or ponds in the trees where they can feed on acorns and sunbath on logs. A good technique is to listen as you walk up you'll hear the high pitched communication they do.

Also if you want set up a few wood duck boxes along the banks of a creek. You might start seeing them soon. Worth a try if you can.

I don't think they are harder to clean and taste great. Beautiful too. Keep lookin.

Shiat - we've been hunting near Queen City pretty hard this year and nothing but a handful of gadwalls and canadas

I've posted the pics to prove it. I'm NE Tex born and raised, been here my whole life, if you aren't seeing or hearing woodies in the area I named above, you're blind or deaf... Hell maybe both. I've killed the chit outta mallards, jagwall, woodies, teal and so on this year just like every other one.
