Using the 38 lb cart/boat with the load balanced I can travel faster and easier than the guy carrying the same load of decoys, shells, shotgun, and gear bag on his back. Again, "provided I have a trail". My nephew has an identical one. We have portaged them on trails for over 5 miles in Colorado for fishing high mountain reservoirs.

This cart shown on my big heavy layout boat

When placed on this small light boat with the load balanced = easy. No dragging. The tires have just enough diameter and clearance that we can hop them over logs, but not so high that it makes the load subject to easily falling over.

Of course you could find an old table.

Or if you have some old plywood and 2x4s build a redneck drift boat.
http://www.ginkandgasoline.com/fly-fishing-photography/redneck-driftboating/

Or like this duck hunter in Alabama, note the decoys in the background, find some drift styrophome and an old lawn chair.

You could probably find enough trash on the bank to build your own paddle as well.

Good luck and be careful. Rivers, even slow ones, are not forgiving of mistakes.

Boom there ya go. That would work to paddle in like I was saying. Not bad for $45 and elbow grease. I need to start regularly searching craigslist. Thx.

Y'all are making this too complicated.....building bridges and whatnot.

Go to the tire store, buy a tire tube, blow it up and float across the river. It's plenty buoyant enough, cheaper than any other option, lightweight, and you can use it at the Guadalupe in the off season to drink beer out of.

City boys and their expensive solutions....

Best solution IMO is to go get a pool tube and plop your butt in that and kick your way across. Costs a couple bucks and weighs absolutely nothing. Before i had a dog this is how i made my little brother pick up birds on a couple farm ponds we hunted, he was a pretty good hand but minded terribly.

It's about time someone finally said an inner tube.

This is the second smartest option,
Provided there isn't a log that fell across you can walk across.

Sounds like you should call the owner of the farm and get permission. That's where I would start, then see if he has a good road leading back there.

I've had the same problem, the only answer is to leave some type of beat up boat there, chained and hope it doesn't get stolen. You can make some wheels to haul it in- like for carrying a deer.

Ahhhh the memories!! Almost brings a tear to my eye . . from laughing my a$$ off !!
Looks just like my old boat. HEY Where'd they get that canoe any ways???

Take a saw (or sledge hammer) to those seats; bust a couple holes in it above the water line.
Now nobody will want to steal it!

Why not a blow up mattress? Simple yet effective.

I should have added about sinking the boat. I have DEFINATELY found that leaving a lot of water in the boat discourages passerbys from bothering it. If the boat is light enough- you can drag it ashore and roll it- only takes a minute to get the water out.
