I have a roughly 1.5 year old lab that loves to retrieve on land and in the water. I have recently gotten into duck hunting and want to introduce her to retrieving the birds.
However, when I have shot dove and duck and shown them to her, she doesn't want anything to do with them. It seems strange to me because she doens't necessarily have an issue with dead animals, as she has tracked and killed a couple of rabbits in the back yard. She just doesn't seem interested in the birds that I have shot.

Has anyone else experienced this or does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

start with bird wings or wings wrapped around bumpers, make it fun, no steadiness, just throw them and get her interested. There are other things too but thats the easiest way and will get you what you are looking for without sending dog through formal training
