A baited area remains off limits to hunting for 10 days after all salt, grain, or other feed has been completely removed. This rule recognizes that waterfowl will still be attracted to the same area even after the bait is gone.
So, During the 12 day split, can u bait day 1 and 2?

Never baited or looked into this, but I'll play.... Depends on how long it takes for all the "bait" to be removed, since the law is 10 days after all of it is gone, not ten days from when the bait was put out?

You can bait all you want whenever you want. But you can't hunt it until 10 days after it is gone.

Question two: is it ok to dump trash gas full of acorns into a hole that has oak trees all around it after the original ones are gone

As long as the bait is gone I dont see the problem. Hate to miss that one kernal, seed, or whatever when the GW doesn't.

I would think the 10 day period starts when you get caught. Then the bait has to be removed. So if a gw catches you on the last day of the split, you really are not going to get to hunt it anytime soon. Just plant and the birds will come. Then they will leave. Then they will come back again. Or not.

^^^False. The 10 days start after all bait is removed not when you get caught. How soon the 10 day rule starts depends on how much you put out and how fast it gets removed.

No, it is after it is fully exhausted, not the date it was done. One kernel will get Mr Green Jeans aggravated and you a ticket or worse

As long as the bait is gone I dont see the problem. The 10 day rule is kinda like a chain. It keeps an honest man honest.

Trout killer, your right. I didn't do a good job of trying to explain my point. If you get caught your going to loose more than just the split for hunting that area.

I meant once the bait is gone for 10 days not if the birds ate it in one day. Once the 10 days is up its fine. I dont think it would be worth it gettting caught hunting over a baited area.

As long as the bait is gone I dont see the problem. The 10 day rule is kinda like a chain. It keeps an honest man honest. The 10 day rule is in place to give GWs more grey area to throw your butt in jail for baiting, lol. Normally for baiting, it will be the feds that come after you, probably someone reported you. And like the IRS, when the Feds get there, they are not making a trip for nothing, they will find something. Really baiting with 10 day rule makes no sense. Why would you do it? When food is gone, birds are gone, especially after 10 days. I know because I have seen when rain comes and covers the food, the birds are gone after a day or 2.

No need to bait, spend a little money renting a skid loader for a day and make your own little pond in the oak trees. It works! Or rent the skid loader and build a removable dam on the cut corn field....again, it works.
