Any real need for a 3.5" shotgun nowadays? I mean most people I talk to are good with 3" guns.

Depends on what your shooting and distance. Steel doesn't hit like lead so long distance large game birds is one use.

I never liked the way a 3.5" gun handled, so I always managed with 3" shells duck and goose hunting.

I am a pretty good shot, but believe in killing what I shoot at.
Deer get 30.06.
Pheasant get 6s with 1 1/4 oz of shot.
Dove get 8s with 1 1/8 oz of shot.
Ducks get 3.5 with number 4s.
Just me.

If I were going to buy a new 12 gauge a 3.5" chamber would be a must. Even if I never shoot a 3.5" shell through it at least the versatility is there if I need it. If anything the 3.5" 12 gauge would eliminate any reason for me to want/need a 10 gauge.

No...and if you want to shoot those types of payloads a 10ga is a much more effective pattern. Never seen a 10ga that wouldn't out pattern a 12ga 3.5. My opinion worth exactly what you paid for it

The only time I shoot 3.5"s is at turkey. I don't know if I need them but I feel better I have them. Ducks I still shoot 2-3/4 and geese 3"

The only thing I use my 3.5 chamber for is Dead Coyote rounds and 00 Buckshot when I go to Missouri and hunt deer up there in the thick woods.

I only shoot 2 3/4 inch. If I can't hit them with that, then they get to live. My gun only takes up to a 3". I guess if I were buying new, I'd get one that could take 3.5" just in case. But that's a heck of a kick, especially for my shoulder tendonitis when it's acting up.
It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

Any real need for a 3.5" shotgun nowadays? I mean most people I talk to are good with 3" guns. "Need" is such a subjective word. I mean, let's not start talking about what we "need" as far as guns go…

Mainly because I'm usually pretty mad at them. If I get one to respond to my calls, I don't want him getting away. Then I'd be more mad at them, and I'd probably go grab a bazooka. Now, there's something I "need"…
