I've got a Merkel O/U shotgun in probably 98/99 % condition I'm thinking about selling to fund a jeep or land cruiser project, does any on here know anything about them and can help with value? If so let me know and I'll send some pictures.

All I know about them is they are expensive, and you can get some idea off of gunbroker.com

You need to get it identified as to model and era. Some models are tremendously collectable while others will merely be priced as a good shooter. There is a German Weapons Collectors forum but I don't know much about it. You need to go to a shop that specializes in high grade shotguns. Here's an example of a fairly recent high grade http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=385619316 and a more run of the mill example http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=386610972. Certain early examples carry a rarity premium in excess of what their quality would command.

Going to run it up to the metroplex this weekend and have it looked at. I'm sorry I don't know why I put O/U on the post, its a SxS. Probably because most my other shotguns are O/U's. I've looked on gun broker to get a rough idea of value and there's a couple different models that look the same and prices vary substantially between the models. I bought it some time back thinking I would shoot it but never do.

Found out what it is. Its an almost mint condition Merkel model 8, 12 guage 28" barrels that are M/I. Pretty cool gun and not worth enough to fund what I'm looking for so going to see if I can trade it for a Beretta 410 to match my 12 & 20. Found one for sale at Cabelas in not as good of shape for over 2K.
