I am going hunting with the wife in 7 days here is my problem I had my 6.8 sighted for Hornaday 110gr V-max at 100 yards I bought some remmington 115gr accubonds thinking this would be a better load for hitting hogs.. Now here is my problem at 100 yards I cant seem to hit the bullseye like I can with the polimer tip its always an inch away in any given direction. If I go back to the v-max would those be enough to down a hog?

Go back to other ammo , hogs are not as tough As ever one says ,
It's because they hit them bad
Hit in head around base of ear or in neck behind ear an they will drop like a rock
Hogs have big heads so shouldn't be to hard to hit

It's all about shot placement.. You can drop a hog with a 22 if you aim behind the ear.. You can hit the in the should with a 7mm and they run off.

You can kill a hog with face paint if you shoot them in the head. But the bullet selection with a 110 gr is more than enough. I say that but I shot one in the shoulder with my 257 weatherby at 150 yards and a 110 gr accubond that weaighed about 350. He ran up and over the hill. He died, just not DRT. IT is all about shot placement, but sometimes a larger bullet is nice. HOWEVER, sometimes it takes some energy when it gets there.

up on the thread, have learned so much. usualy ejd up buying cheap ammo, all them fancy words confuse me on side of boxes took few hogs with .223 55gr fmj, not very good entry hole, hut keep my shots to about 50yrds while moving threw woods, usually find the hogs in thick stuff, limit shot to 20yds twigg can put spin on small round. had got some 55gr hps they got holes in the point, hopen they will open up more on impact. cant find any one ta hunt with ball&cap so trying technology, hate standing on side lines. flag

I don't see why people don't like Vmax ammo as much... I shot them (55gr and over) out of a .223 and 22-250 and dropped hogs and deer were they stand... now the little 40gr ones that are running hot yeah they would blow up mostly... but iv never had trouble with any of the larger vmax bullets

It all depends on how your going to hunt them. If your going to be hunting static from a blind watching a feeder and just want to shoot one hog and have time for good shot placement behind the ear then yes that will be enough bullet. Hogs are always moving they rarely ever just stay still even when eating they are moving arround As stated above shot placement is everything you can kill them with a .22lr. But the 115 accubond is a better bullet for hogs and one inch in any direction is not going to make a difference to the hog the better bullet is just extra insurance if shot placement is not optimal.

When I started using the 6.8 my first bullets were the 110 pro hunter and the 110 vmax I almost stopped using the 6.8 due to so many wounded hogs (and I know where to shoot them) then I found the hornady 120sst's and have never looked back.

This is as close as I can get it at 100 yards. First outer group of 3 is my first group the inner group of three was my last group after adjusting the final time I will post video later.

Surely you're screwing with us. OK, you didn't hit the red bull, but if I read correctly, you're last group is 3 shots touching each other. At 100 yards you can put your shot within a 1/2 inch of the point of aim. You don't mention anything about the wind, your rest, or the scope which could account for the really small difference.

Hmmm, looking at the target I'm not sure whether you're bragging or complaining !?!?! That's better shooting than I can do.

I have two unwritten rules:
1.
2.

Naw the actual first post was one visit to the range on a windy day which was much worse. The target was from another visit to the range stating "this is as close as I can get it" with the vmax hornaday I was able to put most in the center of the red dot. Not bragging as the first visit to the range was really bad.
