Suggestions on a good varmint rifle AR setup that will be scope mounted?
Looking for a good AR setup in 204 or 223 for predator hunting. Don't want cheap and don't want top end. Good hunting gun.
Any info is appreciated.

Find a 5.56 in a 24" barrel with a 1:7 twist.
It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

You go to one place and call them in. Weight is not a big concern when you can setup and call in your target, accuracy is.

I disagree again
It wont be far more accurate and yes some people walk and stalk and they dang sure don't want a 24" barrel.

24" is overkill for a 5.56 without a doubt. At most I would go 20".

I have a RedX 20" 1-8" twist bull barrel upper that I am using for my varmint rig. So far ( I've just started with this type of hunting ) it's been issue free and very accurate with bullet weights from 55 grains to over 70 grains. With a light and bipod I'll admit it's pretty darned heavy, but for a dedicated rig that really doesn't matter to me as I'm not stalking with it. If I want to stalk, I have other rifles for that role. For what I'm doing it works well. I suppose it's up to personal preference.

Don't overlook the 5r rifling from AR15performance. Great price and you get a mega ton of performance as well.

20" RRA Predator upper is nice. Has 1:8 twist and the Wylde chamber. I have the 20" Varmint profile version and it's heavy as heck. Pretty darn accurate and great velocity though. If you were near Rowlett, I'd let you shoot it.

Weight is not a big concern when you can setup and call in your target, accuracy is. A longer barrel in the same profile is actually less accurate than a shorter barrel because it is inherently less stiff. The benefit of the longer barrel is velocity.

A longer barrel in the same profile is actually less accurate than a shorter barrel because it is inherently less stiff. The benefit of the longer barrel is velocity. So given a 16" fluted bull barrel and 24" fluted bull barrel, in 5.56 and all other things being equal, you are saying the 24" is less accurate?
