Most of the opossums I have run across have been that color. Of course I am no connoisseur of fine possumship.

There is one animal along with a skunk that I don't like messing with and that's the other one... nasty animals... the only thing I ever seen that will eat a dead buzzard

Yes I would have to say that's a pretty average one there. I've caught quite a few this year that were black black. Not worth much. The ones you want are the big white ones, they could bring 3 to 5 bucks still. Good job though, reset and catch that coon!

You have a young one...Those are the best eating.quarter wash real good and fry, bake or stew just like you would a chicken..all white meat.. If you are going to keep the hide..you need to flesh it good and place it in a degreaser..Then wash in dawn dish soap...stretch hide to dry..when dry brush flesh side with a mild brush.lay flat and salt good to remove extra moisture.....then soak in bucket of fire ash,,oak bark..lots of both...and water..make sure it is all under water..soak for about three days mixing up every day..after three days...remove from water and re stretch. Now rub hog or deer or cow ,hog brains all over flesh side of hide and leave as is for about two days..scrap all brains off..the brush flesh side with brush again..let air dry more.. remove from stretch and you will have a nice soft hide you can use for about any thing.. Make you a opossum hide water bottle holder.or what ever...ammo bag..hat?

Was running a trap line mid 70's out in the fields that is now 190 @ Custer. Caught a possum and wacked him with a hammer. Put him into my backpack to take home and skin. About halfway there he decided he wanted out of the backpack. Really wanted out. My bike went one way and the bag went the other.

I also got $5 for each one in the 70's and early 80's. About 82 or 83 (I can't remember exactly) the market fell out and they haven't been worth a hoot since. My brother and I caught almost 300 of them one year, made for a great Christmas!
