After seeing some of their posts here and checking out their website, I called Mike about setting up a hunt. I was just looking for some meat for the freezer and mike suggested their special on a red hind and WT doe for $450. My schedule was pretty tight but he got me in on the 27th of December. To say I had a great time would be an understatement.

Got there in the morning and met up with Mike and we were off. Mike suggested we go after the hind first as they would be more difficult to get. He wasn't joking. After nearly 4 hours and a bunch of busted stalks I finally connected on about a 125 yard shot on my hind. I was pumped to say the least. After getting her gutted and loaded up we were off after a doe. I managed to blow a couple of easy stalks on the doe but finally got one down as well.

The WLR is a big place with 4000+ acres under high fence and has selfsustaining herds of a number of different species. I saw some awesome blesbok, gemsbok, black buck, springbok, and a bunch others. Also some of the best red stags and white fallow I've seen. I wish I'd not forgotten my camera as there were a ton of great animals to see as well as picturesque views on the place. Mike is a great guy and busted his [censored] all day to get me the animals I wanted and make the experience the best it could be. He put up with my several rookie mistakes and was great with giving me pointers or advice on selecting he best animal when we were approaching on a stalk. He even invited me into his house after the hunt for some refreshments and to meet many of his extended family that were in town for the holiday.

Overall I can't say enough good things about my hunt with Mike at the WLR. I'll definitely be back to put some more meat in the freezer or some great horns on the wall.

By the way, this red deer is delicious! Momma is already telling me to get ready to go back for some more!
