I am smoking a ham today so I have to stay around the house, so I built a little target to shoot the 17 off the back porch.

I would like to clean it to see if it groups better, but none of my cleaning kits will fit down the barrel

What method do y'all use?

I thought about a wire with a patch, but don't wanna screw up anything

You need a cleaning kit that fits a .17

Ya they make plenty of .17 cal cleaning products out there. You really need a dedicated rod for .17 calibers.

I use a snake on the 17hmr, I'd probably get the rod, brush and jag if it was a center fire .17.

true, the HMR and Mach II do not foul nearly as bad as the 17 Remington at 4250fps

East, I've got a brush here for the .17 that's never been used. If you want it, shoot me a pm with your addy and I'll drop this in the mail.

If you can't find a 17 kit, look in the Air Rifle area as they are .177 and the rods and tips work fine.

I use a boresnake, so far I think it works but too tiny for me to see clearly.

A good cleaning rod is what you need. I always ended up bending them trying to shove a bore brush. I bought a solid rod made by Dewey. It's a lot better. I got it from Cabelas.

I just got a .17 HMR and got a Dewey cleaning rod kit to go with it. Otherwise by the looks of it, I have no idea how I would clean it. Can't wait to try it out, never shot one before.
