Got my first deer in Texas today and my best buck to date today. He's no B&C deer but I'm still proud of him.

Any guesses on a score? I'm going to have him scored soon.

Thanks guys. I got pretty lucky to get him. I saw him new years day and couldn't get a shot.

I ran up on him today on my way to the stand. He was running with 5-6 does and a small 6 point. A 30 minute or so stalk ensued and I literally gave up. I got back out to the power line to go to my stand and 2 does were out in the open. I hit the deck and waited. A couple more does stepped out before he followed suite. Made a pretty poor shot on him at 150 yards and hit him in the gut. He ran into the tree line and the does just stood there then started easing back the way they came. Next thing I know here he comes following him all hunched up and walking slow. I pulled the trigger again this time with the heart pound and a howling wind I hit him about the last rib and he walked on into the woods.
I go down and find blood and decide to let him sit for a few minutes and go get my truck.

If this sounds a little crazy just wait it gets crazier.

When I got back to where the blood was I followed it into the woods and it promptly disappeared. I started to make a arch to try to find something and looked up to see him standing behind a cedar bush looking at me about 10 yards away. So, I put one more round into his shoulder and laid him down.

Not proud of my shooting at all today. Its a distance I've shot a good bit. I blame it on the wind and maybe a little buck fever.

Guess sometimes its better to be lucky than good.

Nice job. I have had an episode kinda like that too. I was made fun of forever and still am to this day for my shooting but I got him and that's what matters.
