and a couple of grand in other bills.
Still waiting on the surgery and actual hospital bills

Sounds about like when my son was born but you got a way to go to even think about matching that. First bill I got was over 200k before insurance paid anything

The last of the strips on the outside come off today. Obviously still some swelling but not to bad. The dead skin is finally coming off too.
I go back to the Dr on Monday for final x rays and hopefully a release to start working out the stiffness.

I also plan to get copies of the all the x-rays.

You do know that some of that swelling/puffiness will never go away? not to mention you'll start seeing the bar outline as it most of it goes away.

No I did not know that but thanks for the heads up. And it would be kinda cool to see the out line of the plate on my bone.

A few of us were just chatting the other day and iy come up that it would be neet to have the X-RAY image tattooed over my ankle.

Just curious, why did they careflight you? Usually that don't do that for breaks.

It was a severe break but didn't know the extent. My ankle took 99% of my fall. The medics suggested it mainly because they said none of the nearby hospitals would be good for dealing with a severely busted ankle and my other option was to just sit and wait for someone to come get me from, and take me back to Ft Worth; at best a 3hr turn around. That could have been a major issue if there were unknown blood flow problems. For fear of possibly losing my foot I took their advice.
Once I got to the ER they did warn me that there was a chance of losing my foot and it was more than just a slim chance.
Further more oncethey opened it up they realized it was busted even more thsn they could tell by the X-RAYS. It turned into a 4hr surgery.

The bill really sucks but I'm glad I did it. Had I not then things could have been MUCH worse.

UPDATE
Doc said everything looks great. Keep off for another week then start putting weight on it a little at a time....using my walking boot. Said I should be off the crutches in 4wks. Also said pain and swelling could take as long as 6-8mo to go away.

You'll feel a lot better once you start using the walking boot. However, once you start walking without the boot, your foot will hurt a lot. Remember, your foot will not have had to really bear your weight the same way it did with the boot. Take a few days to a couple weeks to quit hurting. The worst part for me was in the summer, my leg/ankle was back to normal as it was going get, and went from hot outside temps to cold inside temps. The bar/screws that close to the skin gets colder faster than your body does. Really caused me some pain, and it happened all the time too! It was my option to have a second surgery just to remove the bar and screws about 10 months after the original surgery. Glade I did too.
