Yea I live right in that area. You know just south of i30 there is quite a bit of public property that is heavily wooded. I always wonder if you could shoot bow and take a deer or pig in there. Anyone know if there is a permit or anything that you have to have to bow hunt in the city limits?

There are some good things about this pig "problem".
1) These animals can be a source of free-range, organic protein . . . possibly for poor folks, too.
2) If the swine become abundant enough, maybe we can hunt them without dropping big bread, i.e., paying to play.
3) Folks of all economic levels could become more reengaged with the natural world and the "sport of kings". _____ _____

Poaching charges and a trip to the Dallas County Jail. Dallas Police are now on the lookout for hunting of any kind down that way and are ready to arrest anyone for even hunting pigs. You can hunt in Dallas County on private land south of I-20 with permission but all the public land is off limits. Something bad happened with whatever was supposed to be the feral hog trapping program in Dallas. Remember the $300,000 contract in the news? I don't think anyone is trapping inside the city at the moment.

Thank goodness this is an enforcement priority, stopping folks from harvesting a destructive nuisance species for food. Up until recently, they did not respond to gunfire calls down there. After some murders happened and vehicle dumping, they respond to it all. If you want to know what screwed up hog hunting, look no further than hog dog hunters and people putting out snares. The hog dog hunters had dogs running across peoples yards and land. They told the homeowners to go to hell and even killed some pigs in front of kids. That's not good.

You have to own 10 acres or more to legally hunt within city limits. Its a state law that protects the hunting rights of land owners that have been annexed by the cities. You have to have 10 acres to hunt with a shotgun and be at least 300 feet from a residence, 50 acres to hunt with a centerfire and be 300 yards from a residence. I contacted TPWD about this a few years ago.

I have wondered about the legality of hunting in the city. Is it a violation of a city oridance or state law, I.e. unlaw discharge.
I have actuallyconsidered hunting down in the creek bottoms near white rock, but concerned about the above.

I have actuallyconsidered hunting down in the creek bottoms near white rock, but concerned about the above. Unlawful discharge, illegally hunting on city property, illegally hunting on Corps land. List goes on and on. There are very few tracts of land inside the city limits large enough to hunt on, for instance down White Rock Creek. Down that way, it is almost all owned by the city and they don't allow hunting, have all sorts of laws against it.

My inlaws live on the creek in lake highlands. There may or may not be hogs and coyotes and a couple bob cats that have been taken out in that area by a pissed off home owner...

Apparently the city doesnt consider em a problem if they not allow archery hunt. Seen were they had archery hunt ay state parks for deer, they were gettimg to friendly. We used ta enjoy taking kids ta park walking trails & seeing deer. If it were me, an hogs that bad, would get a bunch of bowhunters tagether & go ta city councel know several guys from city that drive ta WMA ta hunt hogs,

I saw the same pig again today. Same place and about the same time. It is teasing me.
It wants me to do something.
