My youngest son got a Tikka T3 .30-06 for his birthday in October. We put a scope on it but he wants better glass. He is looking for something bigger than 3-9 and also wants an objective bigger than 40. He is looking at maybe Zeiss, Leupold, Nikon, Burris ??? Something like that. He will be shooting 125-400 yards most of the time and mainly whitetails. What do y'all think?? Best glass for the $$$????

I just bought one of the new Ziess Terra scopes in 4-12 and it does not compare favorably with my Leupold scopes. I also had a bad recent experience with a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14, so I would recommend either a VX2or VX3 in Leupold. They have performed better and longer than all others I have tried. But I never have used a Burris so can't say anything but I know people who have them and like the Burris scopes.

We just did this http://www.texashuntingforum.com/forum/u...ing#Post4828681
arandy I have a Zeiss Terra in 2X7 it's marginally better than a Leupold VXII it's not as good as a VXIII but then it costs less. They are close enough for a gentleman's disagreement. The old Zeiss Conquests are better than the VXIII and can still be found under $600.

for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

Youll have a hard time finding a brighter scope than this for $600 or less.

My Tikka and tang Ruger .30-06 rifles both wear Zeiss Conquest 3-9 scopes. I think the Conquest 3-9 on the .30-06 is damn-near perfect.

No need to go bigger optically, in my view. That said, Conquests do come in larger versions.......

I'm satisfied with a Nikon Prostaff. Good scope for the money I thought. All of my rifles have a Nikon Prostaff on them except for one Savage Model 10 with a Bushnell Elite 3-9-40. I've only hunted once and do most of my shooting in a shooting range. Can't afford the Zeiss or Vortex kind I'm pretty sure they are good scopes.

See post above for my experience with Nikon 3x9x50 BDC Scope on last trip to lease. It was on 30-06 and been fine for 2.5 yrs but died on me at break of daylight. Hope it was a fluke since I have its brother on my 270. For me, gotta see how Nikon handles this and if it happens again.
