I have a friend whose 19 year old kid has been in the hospital for over 5 weeks now. He has spent Christmas and will be spending New Year's in the hospital with no discharge date in sight. A couple of weeks ago he was transferred from Wichita Falls to Baylor in Dallas by ambulance where they finally were able to reach a diagnosis. He has been diagnosed with Lymphoma and has gone through one round of chemotherapy. He will more than likely have to have surgery to remove a cancer tumor in his intestines after which he will need more chemo. Needless to say, it is an emotional roller coaster for him and his family as things seem to get better one day and worse the next. The boy, who is 19 has not been able to eat for much of the past few weeks and has been fed through IV during most of the time. He has lost about 46 pounds during the time leading to his hospitalization. Both parents have taken leave from work and are staying in Dallas with him. A couple of weeks ago while I was visiting (I live in Montgomery and have traveled up a few times) he was very talkative and cheerful and we started talking about guns and he mentioned he would like to go shooting when he gets out of the hospital and that he wants a Ruger 10/22. At that point I decided I would get him a 10/22. So while I was at Wal-Mart today I found a black synthetic with SS barrel Ruger 10/22 and decided that was the one.

So now, here is the need part of the post. I would like for this Ruger to be a really nice heirloom for him and his family. Something to be cherished and enjoyed by him and future generations. I was wondering if any of you guys would have some stuff laying around you can sell me on the cheap or donate to this project? What I would like to see:
1. Scope- something decent like an entry level Leupold, Nikon, etc.
2. Stock- would love to put together a thumbhole stock set up for him like a Boyd's something really cool
3. Barrel- a nice SS bull would be nice
4. If anyone out there does some custom engraving, I would love to have some stuff engraved on this rifle. I know that Christian and his family have devoted a lot of time to the church and some type of applicable passage engraved on this rifle would be great. I am not a big church goer or bible study so I would have to rely on my wife who is much better versed in the bible than I am to pick the right passage.
4. Anything else you guys might think of...

As I write this, I am literally in tears as being a parent myself I cannot even imagine what it would be like to have my child in a hospital for that long and not know whether or when he will come out of there...

Please let me know if you can help. Thanks to all of you guys and have a Happy New Year.

I don't have any of the parts you mentioned but would be happy to donate $ to the cause. PM me along with PayPal info and I'll help.

God Bless,
Fitz

Just FYI, I was selling these to make a few bucks... Instead I will use the proceeds to build the rifle.

Update:
Just found out that the chemo is working. The tumor in his intestines has shrunk down. Bad side is that his colon and his intestinal wall have fused together. Surgery will be needed to repair. I really do appreciate everyone's support with this project. I will make sure to acknowledge everyone who contributed. Here is a picture of Christian after his firs chemo dose and his recently shaved uncle from a few weeks ago when he was in good spirits.

And here is the rifle (already taken apart) that I will build up for him with all the help:

Do u have a scope yet?
If not, pm me. I won't buy a Zeiss or anything like that but I think we might be able to work out something.

I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

Thanks Korean...
Daily update:
Christian will need surgery to fix some issues with his intestines (fistula). Doctors have decided to go through a second round of chemo as his body cannot handle surgery right now and they are waiting for albumin levels to increase before they do surgery. After a week of chemo and 2 weeks of waiting for him to get over the chemo they are planning surgery. I assume 2-3 weeks to recover from the surgery and more chemo. It's a good news/bad news situation. For every bit of good news he gets some bad news follows.
Please keep him in your prayers!!!

Now some good news:
I have sold quite a few AK charging handles and received a few donations that have allowed me to place a few orders for parts for the build. I have gotten an extended mag release, recoil buffer, charging handle, extractor, new aluminum trigger housing, new trigger, VQ drop in hammer, 16" bull barrel, and a few other items to make this a really nice and unique rifle. Christian's dad told me his favorite color is blue so this rifle will sport blue and stainless look parts.

Thanks to all for everything so far!

Receiver blasted and almost ready for coating...

Will the stock have sling swivels? I can't engrave the rifle, but I can surely make a tooled leather strap.

Last night, Christian finally got his "chemo haircut". After years of sporting a big-ole fro he is finally clean cut! You can really see now how much weight he has lost. He is still in good spirits waiting for the next step. (Don't hold it against him that he looks a bit like a white Obama... lol!)

Received parts from Tactical innovations today. Started assembling the trigger group. Waiting for hammer to come in. The new parts are really nice. The aluminum trigger housing is awesome. Sent the bolt to a local shop for a little engraving. There is a cool sling being fabricated as well.

One of our members is sending a scope for the build.... AK handles have paid for much of this project as well.

Really thanks a bunch to all that have helped!

x2.

Looking at Boyd's website, the "Sky" colored thumbhole stock looks like it might go with it nicely, especially since his favorite color is blue. PM incoming.

I was waiting to see if ccoker could come up with a stock. Haven't heard yet, so if I don't know by Friday I am going to order it.... That's the stock I'm looking at as well. I really like it!

I want to thank you guys again for the support. This is by far the best forum I am a member of.
