Not real sure what to do have what my gut says to do and the other part of me says let it go. On a lease in cherokee county that we have not seen a single deer on since bow season. Few deer shot off of a 2200 acre lease paper company. Have been seeing dogs running my area and another and neither of us have seen deer since they showed up. No collars, no tags. Couple seem nice but there is a pit running loose also. I don't plan on staying on the lease next year so that's where my dilemma is. Last week of season do I take them out won't matter for deer as they won't show up for weeks I'm sure. Or let them go? I should have probably done something the first time or two I saw them so it's really to late now. Gut says take them out.

Take a shotgun with you and pop them with some birdshot from 50 yards if you see them before your last afternoon hunt

If I would have done something early in the season it would have made a difference now but no one on my side of the lease has seen anything since the dogs showed up. If I planned on staying I'd take them out for sure but since I'm not it's making me think.

It is still illegal to shoot them because you think they are affecting your hunting. I hate to see the dogs run through my place as well, but we still have deer coming despite the dogs. If you don't have any deer at all (not really likely in Cherokee County), it isn't because of the dogs.

Dogs are far less successful in killing deer than coyotes and yet deer do well despite them.

Sounds as if your frustration has you looking to kick an old dog for something he didn't do.

I have a soft spot for dogs, unless I saw one actively chasing a deer I wouldn't shoot one.

I have 3 dogs. I love my dogs and dogs as pets in general. That said, stray dogs running loose on a place are no different than any other stray dogs. They are a useless menace.Guess what animal control does with stray town/city dogs? In the country there is no animal control to call.

Why kill them now? Let them decimate the fawn crop in the spring.

I have personally seen how mean wild dogs can be. Even the nice ones will eventually turn aggressive in the wild. So if it were me.... rifle

Since its this late, let it go, but make sure the guy you're leading it from knows about them.

It is not illegal to shoot a stray dog if it is on your property and causing or potentially causing problems. Especially when outside of the city limits where animal control doesn't come to. If they belong to the neighbor he is required to keep them on his own property. I am a dog lover as well and have a place at lake fork where people let their dogs run loose. I have already made a complaint to the sheriff and was told if they come on my property and act even remotely vicious to do whatever i feel neccesary. Being that season is about over though i would probably let it go at this point. If it were earlier in the season and my lease... They would already been coyote dung by now.

Just odd that once the dogs showed up the deer disappeared. They will probably get a pass if I see them again. I live in the country but my dogs still have collars and tags and also don't run wild either. They look like they were dumped to me and everyone else that has seen them.

X2, I've had some fun vet bill because of stray dogs and non fenced in/ leash dogs.
