I'm wanting to do some food plots on my lease for next year BUT due to land owners restrictions I'm not sure it is possible. I'm looking for something that is no till and something that cows won't eat. Any ideas?

![welcome welcome](/forum/images/graemlins/default/kgo_057.gif) If a deer will eat it a cow will eat it. If the LO has some acreage he plants for winter cattle grazing offer to buy oats or wheat seed for him to plant. Just make sure it is enough acreage to get some benefit.

Solar powered electric fence charger and put a fence up around it if landowner okays it.??

on one place i hunt the LO USUALLY moves the cows for us right before the season, we have never plotted there but have been thinking about asking him if we can and offering to let his cattle graze it before the spring.
If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.

How many acres would be beneficial? The LO said we had to keep it under an acre but did not restrict us on how many we could do. He has not and will not relocate cows during the season for us. In fact his favorite saying is "the cows were here before you'll were"

That would depend on how many deer and cattle can get to the plot. It sounds like he is not going to be in favor of giving up to much cattle grazing to lease hunters IMO. You plow up 20 acres then fence it to only allow deer to graze and you took 20 acres of cattle grazing away. I'd invest in good feed pens with either/or protein and corn feeders year round.

We share 960 acres with the about 70 cows and do have feed pens around all our feeders and 2 of our 6 fed protein and corn all year but it hasn't been enough to keep the deer on our property. We have great cover but I don't think we have enough food options for them.

We have great cover but I don't think we have enough food options for them. If you have that much acreage and that few cows, I don't think it is a food issue, esp if you have that many feeders running. Something else is spooking the deer off the property...just my ![2cents 2cents](/forum/images/graemlins/default/2cents.gif) How are the predators on the property? Any other possible causes deer wouldn't be around? With good pens and feed year round, you should have deer hitting your pens.

Hear coyotes but only one has been shot this year. There is about 500 acres of wheat about about a mile away and we think they are hanging around it a lot.

Do you have TC pics of good deer and they aren't there when you are? Or are there no real good pics?
I would agree they probably are tending toward the 500 acre golden corral buffet set up a little ways off, but that won't bring in all the deer, there still should be some left over for you.

No good pics since the start of season, only a few does and very young 4 and 6 pts. The big deer are around because we see them on the wheat but just get them to the corn.

if you plant enough oats with a no till the cows eating on it will be a good thing. How many head does he run and is it possible to plant a 10-20acre trap he keeps away from the cattle during the winter? would benefit you both if yall could work out a schedule for him to flash graze the oats twice a month or so during the winter

We planted several food plots on our place this spring and fall and have seen a VERY significant increase in the numbers of deer. Prior to planting them we watched our deer travel across TWO properties to get to wheat. When talking with the guys at Turner Seed they said you need to have at least 5 acres to keep them from overgrazing it. Our plots are about 2 1/2-3 acres in size and they get HAMMERED. Next year we will make them bigger. From what I've seen I would say plant several 1 acre size plots within view of your stands to keep the land owner happy about the size.
