I've got the Game Winner Cree 3 light on my scope. Its good for about 80 yards and I have never had any problem. But last night It spooked off the pigs. I heard them at the feeder, pointed the gun to the sky, turned on the light and slowly brought it down like always and before I could get a pig in the cross hairs they trotted off. I wonder if they are getting hip to the green light?
Anyway, im thinkin' bout going to the ATN Aries MK Night Vision scope. any one use these? Thoughts? Opinions?

Sightmark photon makes sense now...

Less than 700 bucks and they can't "see" the ir to become educated.

Goodluck!

Is this becoming a commercial for the sightmark photon?? Same post but with a red light. A little suspicious, just sayin!

Hi Mphunter -

I'd say my place on this forum is on the up and up, I've been posting about night vision on here for about 2 years.

Not sure what you find "suspicious" but I'd like to know, maybe I am being shadowed... ninja

Anyhow I don't do commercials or radio bits but I do share my thoughts with other members based on my experiences - I've hunted scope under moonlight / various spotlights / Gens 1 2 and 3 / and digital. The reason I mentioned the Sightmark is the cost relative to what the OP is using.

I can't control whether people post about the same topic with the only difference being green / red lights so I cut and paste into both threads.

Later Man

MPHunter - no problemo cheers

I hunted with an ND3 and some other Green lights and at first the hogs never spooked but eventually they figured it all out.

The near invisible IR spectrum 850 nm and higher doesn't seem to trigger the same spook response from game. Although there was a fox one time that must have had lasik surgery cause he bolted quicker than a Black Friday sale at the local Wally-World when I shone the IR on him.

Happy Hunting.

Hogs can see the lights the problem starts when they start realizing the lights are followed shortly by gunfire and death. Now I hunt almost exclusively at night using 3rd gen night vision and thermal the hogs or any other animal can not see the IR light but they can see the source. Just like you can see the red glow on a IR game camera. When it's a very dark night and the IR illuminator is needed I use it like we did the old red spotlights. Aim it in the air and come down on the target slowly. Nine times out of ten the animals do not run from the IR illuminator even though its obvious they have spotted it. In my opinion they are used to all the IR game cameras going off all night every night and just assume its business as normal.

Im going hunting tonight and I think I am going to put on the red lense cover to see if changing things up might change my luck. I would love to have night vision but with all the other hunting and fishing addictions I have I just can't spend $700 on a night scope.

Lately around here, I've watched the pigs walking big circles around the IR game cameras because they have associated the faint red glow with death....LOL!
Picked up a 3W 940nm drop in module and it doesn't have the red glow but it's only good for about 100 yards.

Here in the Bastrop area the hogs are ultra light-shy. I usually have about 20-30 on my property from September until mid-February. I started out with the green laser. Everything vanished the second I turned it on and never came back. Then tried red laser. Same thing. Put out the Hog Light with the idea that "they will get used to it". Even after 3+ months and trying all three color filters they never did. Also used solar lights. Pigs that normally showed up 8PM-10PM started coming at 4AM-5AM after the lights died. For those that can use lights, count yourself extremely lucky. Ended up having to get a Gen 2+ night vision scope (and have the Photon on order for a back-up). So far they have not gotten used to the IR but figure that it will eventually happen as well.
