Anyone hunted land with the huge electric generatingwindmills? How did it affect the wildlife...deer turkey etc? I'll give more details about my situation when I have a keyboard and not my tablet. It's dreadful trying to type on this thing!

I hear processing is a little dangerous but cheap at those farms.

Funny thing about getting older:
Your eyesight starts getting weaker but your ability to
see through people's BS gets much better.

I hunt very close to some. On windy days I hear the blades churning the air. After awhile I tune it out. I think the deer do the same. It's what they are used to hearing.

I have 2 on my place and a million around me I hunt around MaryNeal here are a few pics
A cull deer my friend took today
and my display was taken christmas day..In the early morning in the cold you can hear them squeaking pretty good..last year they forgot to shut the door on the hub and everytime it went around BAM BAM BAM all day for about the first 2 months of deer season..no problems at all with it effecting the deer...however a guy down the road did sue back when they first came and put them up for the noise and got a few dollars im guessing now he has blinds all over that place lol

I have some behind my house and they can be heard from a ways off but its just like oilfield equipment IMO, it wont bother them after awhile.

Our landowners have just enterned into an agreement and they just started building infrastructe. They've done surverys of the property and just started putting roads in. They surveyors goofed up some bow hunting and the road building has goofed up lots of rifle hutning. My concern is while they are building them over the next year or more all the traffic will push the deer out of our area. We have 5600 acres that split Brown and Comanche co. We've really built up the herd. Take 1-3 150" deer each year. I'm very scared it will put a serious damper on things for the next few years. I'm not sure if that is a storm i want to weather. For those that responded did they build the windmills while you had the property leased or where they in place?

It will not hurt your Herd IMO..the deer will not put the traffic or the sounds together with harming them so after running around everytime they hear or see a person or truck and as long as the hands there are not messing with the deer there will not be any harm done IMO

Bothered me more than deer.

Nighbird may chime in also, as he took over the lease after me.

Longshore ranch in Howard county has a TON of them. One is even over camp. Spooked me everynight. The whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, of the blades in the middle of the night gave me the creeps.

As far as the hunting goes, only thing I did not like was that within 300 yards of them, we could not shoot guns, so the area the windmills were in was a bow-only area. Sucked, probably the best part of that ranch. That lease came with two contracts, one for the land itself and the landowner, and one contract between the windmill company and the hunters.

We could not hunt our place while the turbines were being constructed. Did not bother the deer or turks. I did not like the shadows the turbines throw on the land. Makes you think something is moving. But you get adjusted to the sound and shadows...

This. Most of the contracts do not allow any hunting on the property until the windmill field is completed. Out here it took 3 years on average.
The good part was after 3 years there were some bruisers running around.

We just got windmills this year in Mills county and it hasn't affected us one bit from what I can tell. Still have plenty of deer despite all the construction and I killed a nice 5.5 yr old about 300 yards from a mill

Wind Turbines. Vrs Windmills. I have a few windmills on my place that need to be repaired, still pumping water but loud as heck.

I'm hearing some interesting info. So the entity installing them won't allow hunting while they are constructed regardless of the landowner? Another question... What abt maintenence? Do the owners of the turbines have to come out for periodic maintenance? Is there lots of traffic post construction for routine maintenance.

Yes they maintain the Turbines daily. The Techs get a report every morning on arrival to work 8 AM. They then go out and check and repair the units. Most times they are off the place by 5 PM. But some nights they work late. They usually work in teams of two in one truck. One guy stays on the bottom the other up in the unit.
