If I am able to go hunt I bow hunt. Cold, rain, wind I am in the stand with my mathews. I have hunted in the crazy rain and in single digits in a tent. I am just at the point I don't have a desire to shoot one with a gun. That's just me.

God is deep but he is not complicated.

My boys and I have been hunting all week in Baylor County, east of Seymour. 23 this morning. Stuck it out until 11am.

It actually was not too bad - after many years of dressing too lightly, I overdo it. Definitely use foot warmers in my Muck Boots. Since I switched to those boots this year, I have had zero problems with cold feet (still using foot warmers with them).

We have not seen very many mature deer this week. A lot of 3 year old 8 pts with nice racks from ear to ear - the kind that look big even at 20 yards and then you shoot one, recover it, and you instantly regret shooting it. My boys have finally learned to leave those alone.

Anyway, have two of my boys bow hunting all week and we are having a great time. Of course they don't dress warm enough so they freeze to death. They are 15 and 24 so they are old enough to learn like I had to.

BTW - the effects of the drought have really shown up this season out in Baylor County. The deer numbers seem down drastically and the number of mature bucks is really down. I have a 3,800 acre lease that we bow hunt only and we have only taken three bucks so far and really only one was what I would call a really mature (4 1/2 year old) buck.

I live in East Texas and the quality of the deer is much better there than out in the Seymour area, at least compared to where I hunt.
