I used to try to call up coyotes with older type callers. Never had any luck. How much better are the newer Fox Pro type than the older types that used tapes. What is the least expensive yet is good quality today and which would you get for say $250 or less? Thanks, Donald

Don, I am on my third FoxPro call, started with the wildfire($199) 35 pre-loaded sounds, capacity of 75(I believe) you can set it out at about 50 yds from you with good transmission(a little farther if there is a rise to set it on) you can get the foxjack 2 decoy to go on it for $49.95, well worth the money! (gives them visual confirmation and keeps their eyes locked on it and not you, I later went with the Hellfire for more volume and distance on the remote it is $349 you can plug a decoy(many types and brands) into the auxiliary jack. I now have the "Shockwave" comes with 100 sounds w/250 sound capacity, I got it for the distance from the remote, can easily set it out over 100 yds, it is $599! it has a lot of other features as well, all of them have extreme clarity compared to the old cassette tapes and the like, the FoxPro calls are hard to beat, if you are not out there every day, the "Wildfire" is a great call

Can't go wrong using old fashion method, hand callers. Little practice goes a long way. Been calling since 1976 and still using mouth callers. I've used tapes, cd's, electronic, (no major electronics such as Foxpro) and had some good results but not as good as a good open reed caller.

Everybody has an e-caller these days, and I think the critters are getting wise. When I do use my Foxpro it is usually all the sounds nobody thinks to use and I make sure it's a sound that coincides with the natural wildlife cycles; i.e this time of year the woodpeckers are active so I use the woodpecker sounds. IMO, If you're wanting to stay under $250 just use mouth calls. I use a bite reed with a short bone barrel. You can get every sound from a deer bleet to a mouse squeak out of that thing. And you can make them yourself if you have the inclination to do so. For a no frills call the only tools you need are a saw, a drill and bit, and some supper glue. Order the bite reed insert online. You can even tweek the sound by trimming up the reeds.

as far as I know nobody around here calls. Most of the places are weekend or hunting places with landowners that live in towns. I have tried mouth calls years ago without much success. I then made one out of a tape player and speaker. It worked better and called up foxes with it. Now coyotes are becoming a problem and have heard good things about the FoxPro. I see one, the wildfire is $199 and was wondering if it is worth the money.

I had a fox pro, ended up getting rid of it because I think the calls get used to much. Back to mouth calls for me, IMO you can't beat em. I will say that the variety of calls you can download is great and I used it for crows, pigs, and even deer. Another plus about the fox pro is settin it up wherever you want keeping pressure off you.

This year my Nephew called one up using one of those plastic antler rattling things that are shaped kind of like a star and held together with elastic cord. I had seen something in the brush but couldn't tell what it was. I told him to rattle and see if it was a buck. When he rattled, it started moving towards us. It popped up out of the brush about 40 yards from us looking right at us...for about 2 seconds.

I bought the foxpro wildfire earlier this year. I am an absolute rookie to predator hunting. I've used it three times and have called in coyotes with it every single time. First time I was busted moving. Second time I missed, third time I finally connected. Easy to use and if a first timer like myself can have success I'm sure anybody can.

I use both mouth and electronic. I use the foxpro for long hunts during contests, when I need a break from hand calls. Work fairly well, best thing about them is the FoxBang. After the shot sound changes to hurt pup and usually bring another in. However, nothing beats the feeling of calling one up with a mouth call. Takes practice and work but very exciting knowing you brought one in.
