Would you shoot?

It's genetics are finally out of our herd, but I'm not sure you could legally shoot this one anymore.

Surely you do not really have to ask the question on that deer.....

No, but wasn't sure if they had an exception for nontypical. It was a mature buck that was killed about 1990. It was the largest bodied deer brought into our local processor for the first month or so of the season.

How are it's genetics out of the herd? Did you also kill the female that produced him?

Not even close to being legal. AR are a good and bad thing. Wish we could take one under 13in. and one over 13in. We have several that are under that need to be taken. But it is not worth the ticket or shame.

Usually the buck passes on the dominant gene that determines antler growth to the fawn. The doe carries the recessive gene. By removing the buck, you remove this dominant gene from the breeding cycle.

coffee spelled backwards is eeffoc. I don't give eeffoc until I have my morning coffee.

We don't see any narrow bucks running around anymore. We killed several bucks with this phenotype.

I agree with you Elkman. After AR's we kill much better quality bucks, and there seems to be more of them. However, it does make it harder for a kid to get their first buck, and you have to watch bucks like the one above walk around.

Killing one deer won't solve the problem or improve the herd. IMO he looks to have had antler damage also when growing in velvet. Still would have been narrow but not as he is there.

X2. Even killing 10 on a LF place won't make a difference that you would see within 15-20 years....other than few bucks being observed
