After seeing some posts on this Forum, I realized that the timing of splits is different in Texas between the North and South zones - with the South split happening before the North. I would have thought that the North split would happen before the South just due to the fact that birds migrate from the North.

What's the rationale behind the South split happening before the North? Perhaps so those in the South can have a shot at shooting at some birds that haven't been shot at for a while?

Nov 1st til March 1st, no split. If there had to be a split, last week of Dec and first week Jan

To answer your question, I'm not sure why the splits/ seasons are offset. My guess is that they time it for migration

No use in trying to make sense of what the government does.

Could be economics... keeps more people in the field. Maybe they felt that more people would travel to the zone still in season to keep shooting birds? Or perhaps they just forgot to sync their outlook calendars...

Agree w Beav. Talked to GW who showed up at my property Saturday. He suggested there is serious debate in Texas to actually push it back 2-3 weeks.

That would be bueno

Push the split back? That would not make any sense if the pushed it back to the second week of season. Oh and by the way ask 5 different officials why we have a split and you will get 5 different answers. I say for north zone they should just open it two weeks later and run it straight through.

I'm not sure...

I don't always shoot deer, but when I do, I prefer B&C's.
