Anyone layed hands on one yet?
I looked at the new Savage BMag yesterday at Cabela's. I would own it today had they had any ammo in stock. I wont but it until I can get ammo for it. Teh action is tight when closing the bolt however Savage redesigned the action on these and it actually cocks when you close the bolt. It isnt too bad though.
I also looked at the 17 hornet. Im not a fan of the way spent cart eject fromt he gun but it seems like a good one.
I've read up on both calibers and they both seem legit. To tell you the truth, I want both. I love the 17s. I hope that I can get my hands on WSM ammo soon so I can buy one!
Any reviews from THFers?
I avoid Dick's and hope they fold.

I have a 17 HH or Hornady Hornet in the Savage model 25 Walking Varminter and it shoots really well. Plus being a centerfire you can reload it. At 150 mine will put 10 shots in a group the size of a dime. I think it may be the perfect fox or bobcat round. As far as the Bmag and the 17 wsm go I want one just not a bmag. Maybe when they come out with a heavy barrel model.

shot a buddies 17 wsm opening weekend of deer season. one heck of a fur gun. popped a fox a 70 yards and one at 10, and the only blood came from the ear.
quiet, with the accutrigger, one sweet set up.
Suprised they didnt have ammo, my buddy had several boxes, all at 15 bucks a pop.
As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind...Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks--Thomas Jefferson

Ammo availability is the only reason I don't own a 17wsm. There is always lots on gunbroker but the prices are stupid.

I have a B Mag 17wsm. Its the ultimate fur CALIBER to 125 yds on coyotes and to 200 on coons and gray foxes. I'll try to put up a picture today. Mine took 35 coons, a gray fox, and a big alpha male coyote last night without any of them taking a step. As far as the gun, well, its a $300 rimfire. The rotary magazine is a nightmare for the first 150 rds and then it becomes tolerable to load. The action is kind of shady. On top of being too tight, if you are taking another shot quickly, it is easy to "short stroke" the bolt and put it into battery with the bolt face still 1/8" from the cartridge. Accuracy is .25" at 50 yds. Ive put 750 rds through mine and never cleaned the barrel. Perfect cartridge, fair rifle.

Holler, where are you finding ammo?
Steven, how much and do you ever make it to Central Texas?
I avoid Dick's and hope they fold.

Just wherever I can find it. Bought 1000 rds when I bought the rifle, so I would be set for a while. Now I pick up a box here and there....Cabela's, mom and pop gun stores.........
