Great story and right up!!! Congrats to your daughter up

Everyone gets wrapped up in the score, age, management plan, neighbors on fence lines, scent products, best attractants, and so on...but stories like this one is why I hunt. For me, this is what it is all about. Thanks for sharing cheers

My dad would have done absolutely the same thing! He used to tell me that if a monster walks out while we're hunting he would rip my arm off taking my gun away so he could shoot it! Good times haha!

There are two kinds of people in this world my friend. The quick, and the dead. Sounds like your pops taught you an important but painful lesson. Quit farting around and take the shot!

Yes, I learned that on this day.

After I made this thread, I remembered another valuable lesson I learned that day.

"The sh** syndrome"

Sometime after the shot while I was bad mouthing my dad and asking "why", he turned to me and said "It's called the sh** syndrome, son. Sh** rolls downhill. Dad's are at the top of the hill, and sons are the bottom of the hill and they get covered up with it."

It was right then I knew I wanted to be a dad.

And she finally got her buck! She made an almost perfect shot at 80yards, and by the time we found it and drug it out to the road it was dark. So I didn't get a good pic.

I was really proud of her. We hunted for two days, morning and evening for this buck. We saw him the first day, but he would not get clear of other deer.

She's only six, but she held the 22-250, resting on the window, to her shoulder all by herself. That first day she stayed in a ready position for 10 minutes waiting for him to get clear.

If I had gotten a better pic, I would have made a new thread...but I kinda like this thread.

Great story. That's what my old man would do too. My boy asked me one time when we were hunting if a big ole boy came out would he get to shoot it. I told him if it was real big, he would find my boot on the back of his neck while I took the shot. Now he's much bigger and when I say that he says , we will see who's boots on who's neck.

Awesome pics and great story, congrats to all! My dad did a similar thing, or so I thought at the time. I was 13, we were walking to our stands together down a jeep-trail at the bottom of a tall steep hill. I had to stop to tie a boot-lace. When I looked up the biggest buck I ever hoped to see topped that ridge and just stood there like an insurance company mascot. I picked up my rifle and whispered, "Dad, there's a buck!" as I took aim. He just pushed my rifle down and whispered, "Let me take him." I stood there and Dad actually used my shoulder and stocking cap for a rest. We never hunted that place again and I held a bit of a "loving grudge" for years. I had chance to visit the place later as an adult and Dad was right. Though he never said it, there's no way in hell I could have made that shot at 12 years old.

You're right! It was a jack azz thing to do! As a matter of fact, I'm getting worked up right now thinking about it! I think I'm gonna kick his azz next time I see him! I know I can take him, cuz he's old. Rat bastid.

But, it's been awhile. And buck fever can make people do some strange things. Aaaand, I guess, he's proved himself as a father over the years. I reckon I'll just let it go.

But he better watch his step.....
