Our hogs seemed to have dissappeared but 2 yearling doe managed to get in the trap. How they got under the baffle I put on it I'll never know. Determined little critters I guess. They were glad to get out of there.

The big one hit the road when I opened the gate. The little one was pretty winded, but no broken bones and no bloody lips. I kept her down and rubbed her until she got her breath back. She finally stood up and looked at me with a "can I go now" look and then bounded off like nothing happened.

Sorry guys! Didn't even think about pictures. I was more worried about the deer.

Happened to me a couple of times. The first time was a doe - she just gave up, laid down and was nibbling on corn when I got there. The second one was a 4 point that went berserk and almost ripped his antlers off. It was bloody, but okay. Saw him the next year and was healthy. Haven't seen him since.

We have caught several in ours over the years. Glad they made it.

We tie brush across the front to try and keep deer out of the traps. Last time we baited tied it open and left the second picture on the camera was a deer inside the trap with the brush we put up knocked down.

We built a pen trap because of this and it sees almost as much deer activity as our feeders.

Agreed. The pen's hold hogs just as well, but allow the deer to jump out.

I went to pen traps as well so deer can get out. We lost a doe that broke her back in a regular trap and she had to be put down by one of the guys.

I have caught 3 deer in the past 20+ yrs in a trap. I now put a few limbs from some thorny brush in front of the door so the hogs can root thru and the deer won't try. Works really great and still catch hogs.

I never use brush but thought about it, I have trapped lord knows how many hogs through the years and have only trapped two deer in box traps that I can remember. It's a pretty rare occasion.

I am somewhere between 500-600 trapped hogs. The brush really works great and it does not take much. Huisache works really well. Here is pic with just some limbs in front of a door on an old trap that was on this place.

We have a 6ft open on the top corral type trap that works great for trapping deer and the occasional hog...grrr. We then cut down a section to 4 ft so deer can jump out. The adults do the fawns still cant make it. I had to get in the trap with one over the weekend again. I'm going to try the brush on the opening. Thanks for the idea.

brush is a good idea. we caught a nice 8pt the day before opening day (youth season). he tore his lower jaw up ramming the cage. he would pick it up and drag it about 10ft at a time. it was a real ordeal getting him out of there. hope he made it. it was hard to look at.
